a lotta folks are under some sort of mystical not-so-critical-look-at-early-church-history, and seem to assume on the day the Lord ascended to heaven, he reached into his tunic on the way up and dropped down a kjv bible with all his words in red....and the rest is just history...

thank God, he left us the word, with his teaching church and magesterium.....

He left the congregation in jerusalem. I belong to a church that uses that as its guide to church structure ~ kind of before the magestarium, and just about on target for the first missionaries.

Technically our church's take on theology is a bit different from the later churches because, for one, Paul was still the enemy!

And that's a good thing ~ you can just imagine how many disputes are eliminated if you don't have to take Paul at his word, but simply as another advisor.

BTW, that first century thing was just an ambition. You really have to move on in your thinking into the second century ~ else you get those folks Paul warned against.
