the students circulated a petition and gathered 300 signatures -- about 1.5 percent of the student body. Despite the relatively small opposition, the school's student government quickly voted to end negotiations with the company.

So why didn't someone try to collect signatures from some of the other 98.5% of the students? Maybe then the college administration might have some ammo on their side if they wanted to allow Chick-fil-A, or the next group that the homosexual activists decide to target, to continue operating.

Because those students would have been surrounded by activists screaming that they were "homophobic", brand their signature-collecting to be a hate crime, and demanding the administration expel them and anybody who signed their petition.

Look at what happened to people who were listed as contributing to the Cal Prop 8(Defense of Marriage Act). They got hate mail, death threats, boycotts, firings, etc.
