Unusual Sight in the Mall [London]
The Hermeneutic of Continuity ^ | 9/18/10 | Fr. Tim Finnegan

The other day, Anna Arco mentioned on Twitter that there were massive papal flags along the Mall, so I determined to get some photos. It was gloriously fresh and sunny morning first thing this morning in London so it was a great opportunity.

The above photo gives you a better impression of the length of the Mall. This zoom foreshortens this next one but you get some more of Buckingham Palace:

Looking the other way towards Admiralty Arch (through there you get to the South side of Trafalgar Square):

(Note for Americans: jay-walking is not prohibited in England.)

Another unusual sight in London is Methodist Central Hall decorated with the papal colours:

The Holy Father will drive in the popemobile past St James's Park. Looking across the park from Horse Guards, you wouldn't think you were in central London.

Whenever I jaywalked in London, I almost always looked the wrong way before I crossed.

I’m planning a “search for my English roots” trip in 2012. Looking at these pictures, I get even more excited for the trip. Thanks for posting!

Thanks for the photos.

As an American - I have ask - who paid for all the flags?

"I’m planning a “search for my English roots” trip in 2012."

I hope you have a great time. I was fortunate enough to visit the British Isles for a 23 day bus tour in May 2005. Had a week to myself in London before the tour even began. I had such a great time visiting museums and historic sites, I went back to London for 10 days the following August. I'd love to go back at least once more before my life is over. There is so much to see and do.

Fr. Tim Finnegan is doing an excellent job of reporting on the Pope’s visit.

Thanks from a grateful American. My mother's side of the family came from somewhere over there, perhaps Wales. I am a big fan of "Time Team, " and am waiting for the second part of their TV season to start. I see they've got a special coming up on the Vikings. Very cool!! Thank God for sites like UKNova and The Box.bz. torrent sites!!
