Except for Rome, of course, which was the most powerful state on earth at the time. (unless you are resorting to word games and card tricks to try to prove your point).

There was no "C"atholic in 60AD or 90AD. There was a nascent Christian Church however.

That is a distinction without a difference. It is like saying John, Paul, and George weren't really the Beatles when they called themselves the Quarrymen.

(Doesn't that make Protestants "Wings"?)
