BRUSSELS Police raided the headquarters of the Belgian Catholic Church on Thursday following fresh accusations of child sex abuse involving priests.
"Within the context of a recent investigation, prosecutors have been informed of accusations denouncing abuse of minors committed by a certain number of Church figures," a spokesman for Brussels prosecutors told AFP.
About 30 officers and investigators sealed off the palace of the archbishop of Mechelen-Brussels "in order to establish if these accusations are backed up or not," said Jean-Marc Meilleur, without giving any more details.
Some 450 submissions to a special commission set up to examine complaints received of child abuse in the past and housed in the archdiocese premises were taken by officers.
Dutch-language daily De Standaard reported that authorities also wanted to ensure that all accusations received by Catholic leaders in the country had been transmitted to the independent body.
The man who led Belgium's Catholic Church for two decades until the turn of the year, Godfried Danneels, was himself "escorted" to the site by investigators, private Flemish TV channel VTM reported.

There's a dialectic in theology: I learn about God, because I have an idea of fathers, being a father, having had a father, and knowing many fathers.
But then I realize that God is THE father, and the human fathers of whom I speak are not as much fathers as he is.
So being a personal-type being among personal-type beings I learn about God, I have an insight into what He is. But then I realize that the "personhood" of the Trinity is far more real, far more complete than mine.
Okay?
Not only that, he appears to be balding, the pope has more hair than that TODAY.
It means God is going to mash you like a bug.
;-)
As it says in tiny print on the back flap of the book's jacket:
"Eugenio Pacelli, before his election to the papacy, leaving a reception for President Hindenburg in Berlin, 1927."
Worse yet, this photo -- which has been used before in its full clarity -- is now cropped and blurred so one cannot easily see that the two German soldiers surrounding Pacelli are not Nazis but ordinary German soldiers in the pre-Nazi Weimar Republic! If this is not (adverently or inadvertently) lying through a picture, what is?
Bigots never let details get in the way of a smear campaign.
Well, okay, but we’re still not victims of vicious lies. Our antagonists just love us to pieces and care for nothing but the truth.
Finally, a portion of one of your posts that is actually true.
Of course.
Thx.
We are know by our deeds and I have seen no evidence that you are actually a practicing Christian. You talk the talk, but do not walk the walk. You go out of your way to insult and antagonize and exhibit no concern as to the truthfulness of your comments.
The angels are somwhat above our level, having greater intelligence and stronger wills.
That's as much as we know.
Beyond that, we're above, in my opinion, oh, whatever other persons that exist--- in other inhabited galaxies, say, and if they exist --- Klingons, Vulcans, Ferengi, Na'vi, LGM's, who knows? Though maybe Mr. Spock thinks he's somewhat superior to us.
Though I doubt that. Seriously.
:o)
My point (which I somehow inadvertenly deleted from my last post) is that you should refrain from using that last picture. As used to imply a connection to Nazism, it is spurious.
Irony ain't just a way to make your shirts flat!
Wow do I share that fear!
Would you please consider joining in a Novena of praying the Litany for Humility from July 1 to July 9? (Sorry for the formatting.)
Litany of Humility
Rafael Cardinal Merry del Val
O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, Hear me.
From the desire of being esteemed,
Deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being loved,
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being extolled,
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being honored,
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being praised,
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being preferred to others,
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being consulted,
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being approved,
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being humiliated,
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being despised,
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of suffering rebukes,
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being calumniated,
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being forgotten,
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being ridiculed,
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being wronged,
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being suspected,
Deliver me, Jesus.
That others may be loved more than I,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be esteemed more than I,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That, in the opinion of the world, others may increase and I may decrease,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be chosen and I set aside,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be praised and I unnoticed,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be preferred to me in everything,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may become holier than I,
provided that I may
become as holy as I should,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
Closing Prayer
Dominicus Gabriel Mariae
O most gracious Lord Jesus:
To redeem an undeserving humanity
You gave up everything you had.
In your mercy, grant us the grace
of despising all things but you
and your love
That we may know the joy
you brought to us
through your dolorous Passion
and Death,
Who live and reign in might and bliss
with the Father and the Holy Spirit
One God, in everlasting glory.

Good point!
LOL!
What a strange prayer. Have you ever lived all that? Pray that you don’t.
No Ferengi! Please!
For it to be ironic it must first be true. At least you admit it.
I don't know. I think the ears are pretty cool ....
ME? Of course not! I'm a sinner! I keep thinking God ought to work for me!
Pray that you dont. Whyever not? Seriously. I think a clear, non-neurotic choice that GOd be glorified, not moi, would be a wonderful grace. And to see without envy good things in others? Splendid!
