Nifonging the Catholic Church
me ^ | April 18, 2010 | vanity

I seriously wonder about some FReepers, sometimes. Any other person accused of a crime would be defended by every FReeper as being innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. I've seen whole threads written by men who have been accused of child abuse by ex-wives out to deny them their visitation rights or to wrest more money out of them. These men are rightly indignant, and furious about the unjust accusations that cannot be proven but are never withdrawn.

Yet where are those FReepers when a PRIEST is accused? Where is the presumption of innocence? Suddenly, every accusation becomes a verdict, and not only the accused but his entire organization and all its adherents are held responsible.

I can only wonder what some of these so-called conservatives (who so faithfully defend the Constitution) would do, if THEY were the ones accused! It is a nightmare for any man -- all of you know how even the accusation stains the man forever, even if it is proven false!

Not only that, many here assert that the problems of 30, 40 and even 50 years ago must be tried in the media TODAY!

Remember the Duke rape case? There are more similarities than differences here. The priests are accused, nifonged, and instead of being defended, they are vilified!

What other man of you could stand under the weight of such an accusation trumpeted by the press, and come out whole? None! And such accusations made, LONG after the statute of limitations has passed, sometimes even after the accused is dead and buried for YEARS -- are YOU one of those who automatically, reflexively, spitefully, and gleefully act as judge, jury, and executioner?

Women! What if it were YOUR HUSBAND, YOUR BROTHER, YOUR FATHER, YOUR UNCLE, YOUR SON who was accused? Wouldn't you want the best defense possible? Wouldn't YOU believe in their innocence? Wouldn't YOU help protect your loved ones as much as possible? And yet, YOU JUDGE THE CHURCH FOR DOING WHAT YOU WOULD DO?

Shame! Vast shame! On all who have sinned against the innocent!

There is, in every mass, every day, an Old Testament Reading, a New Testament reading, and a Gospel reading.

I know. I'm familiar with your church's services. My wife was RC and we attended services at her church for awhile. It struck me as odd the first time that I was the only one bringing a Bible.

The manner in which Scripture was read was so perfunctory it seemed to me most in attendence were just going through the motions without serious thought about the words. My wife was shocked when she went to her first Baptist service. Everyone brought their own Bibles. We opened and read from them and when the Pastor was going through his message everyone had them open.

I have not yet referred to 'predestination', merely referred to the ability of Almighty I AM to see all of History as He chooses, thus He could see the advent of Luther even at the human perspective of the Day of Pentecost.

The scene as related int eh Bible has The Holy SPirit speaking through the Apostles AND the Holy Spirit touching the ears of the listeners so that they understood the Gospel in their own language. When Peter went to the Centurian's home and was about to preach the Gospel to them, The Holy Spirit touched those int he audience to such a noticeable degree that even Peter was astonished and insisted they be Baptised forthwith.

God's timing and perspective is so very different from Man's. I'm curious: do you doubt that The Holy SPirit can call souls even in a Church where the pastor is a sexual degenerate hiding his degeneracy from the congregation? ... Do you acknowledge that it is the responsibility of the congregation to then deal with this person so that the demonic influence cannot be more empowered in their midst?

I would agree with your post.

Except I am not an enemy of the Church. I’d say Satan is the enemy and catholic clergy who committed abuse and those catholic clergy who aided them let him in their heart.

“But do accept my humble assertion as my heartfelt belief that the Roman Church has been used by God to spread the Gospel.”

I would agree with this statement. But I also say that God only used the Roman Church limits God’s power.

We have the Word. He is present on the altar: Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity.

Where did I state ‘only’? ... Please, try to keep the comments of different posters spearated in your responses. Attribution to one is slander to another.

I would say the gifts of the spirit which Peter rec’d as an apostle ended with the death of the last apostle.

God can use anyone. But crime should be outed and reported to the civil authorities no matter who the perp is.

God also used the Roman Empire (political not the Church) to spread the Gospel. His ways are so much further above our ways ...

I think you are wrong about the last part. As I read Scripture Jesus Christ is seated at the right hand of God the Father in heaven right now.

I agree, you do have access to the Scriptures.

And then God used Martin Luther to correct some wrongs

How do you know that God used Martin Luther to correct some wrongs? What is your source that God did such a thing?

He is indeed present. I was just reading a sermon recently dating back to the 4th. century which talked about the Real Presence; it was fascinating. This was believed and taught from the very beginning

Luther gave the German people what they wanted. The Bible translated into their own language so they could become learned for themselves rather than relying on whatever was said from the pulpit.

Oh, right. I forgot to say that ALL masses everywhere demand that scripture be read in the same dull way as at your wife's church, by that particular lector. /sarcasm

Have you got a shred of evidence to back this up?

This is like saying that it's necessary to translate the KJV into ebonics because that is what black people want.

EVERY German who could read and write in the early 15th century could read and write Latin and usually Greek. Luther's translation into German is totally different from English translations because modern German DID NOT EXIST. NOBODY was demanding a German Bible.

I will concede that literacy grew at a very fast rate after Luther's Bible was published and most Lutherans had one within a few decades, but the demand DID NOT preceed the Bible.

One last question that nobody in the "Protestants gave the Bible to the masses" crowd has ever been able to answer. If God considered reading the Bible to be necessary for salvation, WHY did He do this knowing that the printing press wouldn't exist for FOURTEEN CENTURIES AFTER THE RESURRECTION?
