New York, NY, October 15, 2009 A prominent Christian religious leader has apologized to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) for comparing proposed healthcare reform measures to "what the Nazis did" and for bestowing a Josef Mengele Award on the president's chief healthcare advisor.
In a letter to ADL, Dr. Richard Land, President of the Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, said he deeply regretted his remarks. "I was using hyperbole for effect and never intended to actually equate anyone in the Obama administration with Dr. Mengele," he wrote.
"I apologize to everyone who found such references hurtful," Dr. Land continued. "Given the pain and suffering of so many Jewish and other victims of the Nazi regime, I will certainly seek to exercise far more care in my use of language in future discussions of the issues at stake in the healthcare debate."

Dr. Land may end up being a prophet.
So then because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth. Revelation 3:16
Note to ministers: take a bold stand for Christ, or get out of His ministry.
I’m surprised the ADL accepted the apology without a check.
Maybe he will backtrack, but I won't. Ezekiel Emmanuel is another Dr. Mengele.
Well-said.
See...this is the problem with so-called conservatives, whether they are religious leaders,politicians,whatever....Say what you mean, stop being lukewarm and don’t back down! There’s hardly ever been a lib who has backed down from anything they’ve said. No apologies. No mercy. Get out there and say what needs to be said and stick to it!
The apology was unwarranted. The Obama Administration is riddled with people—Dr. Emmanuel and Holdren for starters-who endorse the merciless killing of the inconvenient sick and old. They are indeed soul brothers to Mengele. The ADL has no trademark on analogies to Hitler or Mengele. The organization should stick to its voction: persecuting rural and small town football coaches who dare lead their players in prayers to Jesus.
I wouldn’t have apologized. I would have further condemned.
