Christian and Jewish Leaders Condemn Anti-Mormonism
adherents.com ^

Posted on 06/30/2008 1:02:53 PM PDT by sevenbak

The recent attacks from a number of sources on The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) reek of the same prejudice that, in the past, we have often seen used against Jews, Catholics, Muslims, and many others. This kind of behavior needs to be identified and condemned for what it is: religious intolerance and blatant bigotry.

These attacks on the Mormon Church have come in three forms: preaching, publications, and video presentations. Honoring the freedom to speak and preach from the heart, the National Conference takes issue with using the pulpit, any pulpit, to promote misleading, distorted, false and/or bigoted views of any religious body. An example of such a distortion is the growing use and presentation of two videos: "The Godmakers" and "The Godmakers II". These videos, developed by an anti-Mormon group intent upon vilification and hatemongering, are designed to misstate, malign, and encourage the hatred of a well established group of Christian believers and they ought to be repudiated by all people of good will...

...As people of good will, we in the National Conference of Christians and Jews join with our national leaders in the condemnation of any attempt to use one's first amendment religious freedom as a smoke-screen behind which one might hide while engaged in actions which must rightly be named as religious bigotry.

You will have to ask the Admin Moderator about that. Admin moderator hung that on me...

Now, why did the Admin. Moderator do something like that?

Personal attacks are not allowed.

So...referring to non-Mormons as "lamestreamers" and "mainstreamers" is not derogatory or attacking in any way?

I am afraid that this is going to be another "hard sell" for you.

He has used it before, too.

He has been reminded of Billy Graham's incredible integrity when it came to interacting with women (other than his wife)...but he, apparently, ignores reality in a poor attempt (poisoning the well) at defending the indefensible when it comes to Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, and other LDS leaders on the subject of sex.

Even removing that comparison, neither man has declared himself a prophet, put himself equal to or above Christ nor declared the other's followers as being of the devil, illegitimate professors of a false “Christianity”, nor set themselves as an additional standard one has to gain approval from to reach heaven...

Facts seem to cause an allergic reaction to these good folks, they tend to break out in a rash of obfuscation and suffer bouts of denial and illogic...

Well, I am so glad for you. They are also welcome in my chapel building at all times.

Since you are wondering what will take a year, I would advise you to speak to our missionaries, they will teach you what you need to know. There is no charge for this service. Our Bishops would be happy to speak to you also.

No, I do not remember ever using Falwell’s name. Perhaps your friend that likes to talk about me behind my back would care to check?

A pity you seem ashamed to identify what particular brand of mainstream “Christianity” you profess.

After a year of obeying all the rules and regulations required to be a "worthy" mormon, you must have an interview with the bishop and satisfactorily answer the following questions in order to receive a temple "recommend" which will allow you entrance. There you may take part in the "ordinances" that are believed to be necessary to enter the mormon equivalent of the Christian heaven, the ability to reside with God and His Son.

TEMPLE RECOMMEND QUESTIONS

1 Do you have faith in and a testimony of God the Eternal Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost?

2 Do you have a testimony of the Atonement of Christ and of His role as Savior and Redeemer?

3 Do you have a testimony of the restoration of the gospel in these the latter days?

4 Do you sustain the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as the Prophet, Seer, and Revelator and as the only person on the earth who possesses and is authorized to exercise all priesthood keys? Do you sustain members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles as prophets, seers, and revelators? Do you sustain the other General Authorities and local authorities of the Church?

5 Do you live the law of chastity?

6 Is there anything in your conduct relating to members of your family that is not in harmony with the teachings of the Church?

7 Do you support, affiliate with, or agree with any group or individual whose teachings or practices are contrary to or oppose those accepted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

8 Do you strive to keep the covenants you have made, to attend your sacrament and other meetings, and to keep your life in harmony with the laws and commandments of the gospel?

9 Are you honest in your dealings with your fellowmen?

10 Are you a full-tithe payer?

11 Do your keep the Word of Wisdom?

12 Do you have financial or other oblgations to a former spouse or children? If yes, are you current in meeting those obligations?

13 If you have previously received your temple endowment:

Do you keep the covenants that you made in the temple?
Do you wear the garment both night and day as instructed in the endowment and in accordance with the covenant you made in the temple?

14 Have there been any sins or misdeeds in your life that should have been resolved with priesthood authorities but have not been?

15 Do you consider yourself worthy to enter the Lord's house and participate in temple ordinances?

I was referring to Billy Graham that you had mentioned previously, not Falwell.

If "my friend" freep-mailed me and discussed you, then it would be "behind your back"...but don't you agree that since you can read his posts that it really doesn't qualify as being "behind your back"?

A pity you seem ashamed to identify what particular brand of mainstream “Christianity” you profess

What gave you the indication that I was ashamed in any way? Given my previous post relative to your question, is that really a fair assessment on your part?

I asked you to provide the definition of "mainstreamer" because I was not familiar with it, and then I would provide an answer to what kind of "mainstreamer" I was. Sorry...I am not familiar with the jargon.

You haven't, yet, given me a definition...but I assume, given the way you worded your statement in post #150, that you are referring to a person who holds to the historic Christian Faith as defined in the Bible.

If my assumption is correct, I am a Christian that holds to the historic Christian faith as defined in the Bible. I am a member of a non-denominational Bible church.
