Hugh Hewitt: With apologies to the Bard: An oration over the career of Tom McClintock

Friends, conservatives, Californians, look up from your screens;
I come to praise Tom McClintock, not to bury him;
The mischief that some men make is forgotten;
For others it becomes their only reputation,
So might it be with Tom McClintock....

Cruz Control. Is Schwarzenegger anti-immigrant? Is Bustamante?
WSJ Opinion Journal ^ | Spet. 3, 2003 | John Fund
Posted on 09/03/2003 12:24 AM PDT by FairOpinion
California's Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante is now a desperate candidate making audacious claims.
Mr. Bustamante, the only major Democrat running to replace Gray Davis as governor, is accusing Arnold Schwarzenegger of being anti-immigrant. The lieutenant governor told CBS's "Face the Nation" on Sunday that he is "shocked" that his opponent is "trying to take on immigrants in this state. I think that is wrong." On CNN, he said, "Arnold's going back to the same wedge-issue politics that his mentor Pete Wilson suggested." ....

Race, Californias Final Solution

The personification of the devil as the symbol of all evil assumes the living shape of the Jew. -Adolf Hitler
For the Race, everything, for those outside the Race, nothing. -Motto of MEChA
By now, most of us know Cruz Bustamante, the great Democratic hope in the race to replace the disgraced
Gov. Davis, that is, in the Great California Recall. Bustamante, the states current Lieutenant Governor, was a member of the student group MEChA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan). This groups charter calls for the annexation to Mexicoby violent means if necessaryof the entire Southwestern United States. Bustamante has refused to distance himself from this racist hate group. Not surprisingly, much of the media has given the Hispanic liberal Democrat a pass on the issue, and is apparently more concerned that Republican contender Arnold Schwarzeneggers father was a brownshirt. God help California....

September 3, 2003 -- LOS ANGELES - Arnold Schwarzenegger said yesterday that it was Richard Nixon who sold him on the Republican Party - in the muscleman's latest effort to woo much-needed conservative votes.
Schwarzenegger appealed to listeners of conservative radio talk-show host Michael Medved, telling them he's supported the GOP since coming to the United States in 1968 and becoming a citizen in 1983....

Will Arnold Support the Boy Scouts?
CNSNews ^ | 09-03-03
Posted on 09/03/2003 8:39 AM PDT by Brian S
By Hans Zeiger CNSNews.com Commentary September 03, 2003
While the state of California was distracted by the governor's race last week, the California legislature passed a resolution haranguing the Boy Scouts for their moral codes.
By a vote of 22-15, the state Senate passed Resolution 89 that the assembly passed earlier in the year, declaring that "the discriminatory policy [barring homosexual and atheist members and leaders] of the Boy Scouts of America is contrary to the policy of the State of California."
Senator Tom McClintock, a Republican candidate for governor, is the only candidate who has registered his support for the Boy Scouts on this issue. McClintock was one of the fifteen senators to vote against Resolution 89. No other candidate has said a word.
According to Newsmax.com, Republican gubernatorial frontrunner Arnold Schwarzenegger has promised to side with the Boy Scouts. But the passage of this resolution will be Arnold's test. If he really supports the Boy Scouts, now is the time for him to speak out against this outrageous declaration of hatred and moral relativism by the California legislature....

Weasel Pass
CaliforniaRepublic.org ^ | 9/3/03 | Nicholas Winter
Posted on 09/03/2003 9:21 AM PDT by ParsifalCA
Priorities & Frivolities and Hugh Hewitt seem to think that Cruz Bustamantes weasel comments are enough and sincere ["My politics ... have grown to a point where I'm a very inclusive individual, and all you have to do is look at the politics I've shared and the kind of politics that I've had," Bustamante said. When pressed a fourth time for a more direct answer, Bustamante said, "Racial separatism is wrong... You have to look at what people do, not just what they say, and I think I've demonstrated my ability."]. This may be sincere, but it is NOT enough. Using the current rules from the Playbook of Progressive Politics (as applied against conservatives), Mr. Bustamante must denounce MEChA as a racist, colonialist, nativist, exclusive and heinous organization AND that he must regret his past membership AND unequivocally state that he will not accept either MEChA's support or endorsement... Hey, arent these the new rules? Isnt this how its supposed to work? Surely the blogosphere could write the script for him - then we can all make nice....

California gubernatorial candidate Cruz Bustamante remains steadfast in his refusal to denounce MEChA, which he joined as a university student.
For anybody who is still wondering why this is such a big deal, herewith are key quotes from MEChA's founding document El Plan Espiritual de Aztlán (cited by many MEChA university chapters as being "fundmental" to the organization) juxtaposed with the Nazi Party's founding platform ("The Twenty-Five Points", which were first read in public by Adolf Hitler on Feb. 24, 1920) ....

Candidates' stances on gun issues emerge (Cal Recall)
Sacramento Bee | 3 September 2003 | Herbert A. Sample
Posted on 09/03/2003 11:15 AM PDT by 45Auto
It is certainly no secret that the characters portrayed by movie actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, the leading Republican candidate in the gubernatorial recall election, have an affinity for guns.
Big guns. Powerful guns. Futuristic guns. A lot of guns of all types used in nearly every conceivable way to terminate, with extreme prejudice, human beings, aliens and a robot or two.
To some Californians, that make-believe violenc e places a special responsibility on Schwarzenegger to clearly spell out his views on regulating the availability of real guns to real people -- something he began to do last week. Meanwhile, groups advocating more gun-control laws and those opposed to additional restrictions are more than a little interested in whether Gov. Gray Davis retains his office -- and if not, who will succeed him....

Schwarzenegger ducks (more like he "clucks" like a chicken)
Orange County Register ^ | 9/3/2003 | editorial

Arnold Schwarzenegger is displaying a distinctly non-tough guy approach to confronting his fellow candidates in the recall election.
Mr. Schwarzenegger is planning to avoid this afternoon's televised recall debate (4-6 p.m.) and says he will participate in only one of the several other debates that are being scheduled for the weeks to come.
The actor's campaign announced that he will be part of the Sept. 17 debate sponsored by the California Broadcasters Association, for which the candidates will get the questions in advance....
