It's odd how you pick up memories in childhood that set you up for some big misunderstandings. I remember watching an episode of Emergency. The paramedics picked up an archaeologist (?) suffering intense abdominal pain. He had just consumed some ancient wine from some tomb. He drank it with some sandwiches that turned out to have bad mayo in them. Everyone expressed regret that they couldn't have some of the wine too.

Cut to my first chance to taste wine. For some reason that episode of Emergency had made it sound soooooo wonderful. I didn't know what was wrong with me, that it wasn't a rapturous experience.

That's been true of a lot of things I guess! But not everything. ;-)
