Rally for America - Lone Star Style! (LIVE THREAD)
Live reports from Dallas | 05/28/2003 | Interesting Times

Posted on 05/28/2003 6:19:01 AM PDT by Interesting Times

Good morning, campers.

Yesterday in Dallas, Texas, members of GreenPeace and other assorted leftists pestered attendees at the annual Exxon-Mobil shareholders meeting by way of expressing their loathing for free-market capitalism. As is their custom, most of the leftists managed to get themselves arrested in the process. Nothing new there.

Today we're offering something a bit different -- a rally in celebration of capitalism.

After all, why should the leftists have the streets all to themselves?

ReaganGirl, who is acting a press consultant for the event, reports that there are about 50 good guys on the street as of 8:15 Central time. Some of the signs include:

"A night without oil is like, duh, dark."

"Oil employees, ecoterror destroys"

"Oil, you can't leave home without it."

"Oil will bring me into the 21sth century" and "Buy my oil and free my people -- what a deal!" (held by a woman in Muslim garb)

"Don't mess with Texas jobs!"

The centerpiece of the rally is a *huge* banner featuring cute stick children with big smiley faces, butterflies, green trees under a rainbow. And an oil rig. It reads:

"Oil - For the Children!"

Several attendees are sporting Tyranny Response Team T-shirts.

One woman is dressed as Statue of Liberty. Another woman is dressed as the Exxon tiger, carrying a sign saying "I love capitalism."

Truly, it brings a tear to the eye...

Frank Sprow, the head of the Environmental Shareholders Division of Exxon-Mobil just came down to say thank you.

This would seem to certify us as Official Lackeys of Big Oil.

Here is a new article on the shareholders meeting and the leftist protests. It features the following quote by our new buddy: "I think they see this as an opportunity to use lies and distortions to operate their own agenda," Sprow said."

Leftists? Lie and distort?

The powers of socialism and darkness are represented today by exactly five (5) protestors, as of 8:30 am. It seems that most were arrested yesterday and are still awaiting arraignment.

These guys are used to being taken down to the local police station, having their tickets stamped, and being back at the riot in an hour or two. Not so in Texas. They were arrested around 10:30 yesterday, and have been cooling their heels overnight waiting for processing this morning.

Hey, Seattle, are you taking notes?

ReaganGirl reports that all the Dallas news stations are there with cameras rolling.

The chants include:

"We Love Oil!" and "Hey, hey, ho, ho, leftist commies gotta go."

An Exxon-Mobil shareholder has provided a tray of chocolate-covered Krispy Creme donuts to share with the rally attendees. Another 20 or 30 shareholders are just hanging out, cheering on the activists and watching the festivities in complete amazement.
