"It made such an impression on me (12 at the time), that when President Bush was campaigning in a different city close to me in 2000 I took my son so he to could have that experience."

I did something similar, I took my children to see Cheney and Powell campaigning two days before the 2000 election. My littlest one was only 3-1/2 at the time and he still mentions it when he sees them on TV.

...protesting the President, however, would have earned her extra-credit.

Depends on how the report is worded. "Research for Democrat National Committee Headquarters" would easily earn bonus points.

No signe of Mark Keene on the FEC database.

He's listed under NEA(actually he's probably way too cheap to donate) but the NEA takes his money and sends it to the DEMS anyway so he knows he's covered. Someone should research some of the "excused absence" things they DO give credit for, that would be instructive.

This site gives people's reaction to the decision. You can post your thoughts.

I love this one!

“I wonder how Dr. Keen can justify that this young girl's experience was not educational while my Westfield 3rd grader's 3 hour field trip to Outback Steakhouse for lunch last week was! “

We went to Washington DC and Virginia this spring for vacation during spring break and my son (7th grade) earned EXTRA credit for standing up in class and talking about all the historical places he visited..."

That's wonderful! It looks like our family will make our first visit to those places in June...I'm very excited!

May I add, if you have enough time, to visit the Hampton Roads area. Lots of Revolutionary and Civil War History. NOt to mention the Beaches! Welcome to Virginia (in Advance!)

All this idiotic (liberal) superintendent is teaching the kids is that to get by, you have to lie if you are a conservative... PURE BS

Good point. Each school has their own policy outside of any federal regulation and it's obvious this school wishes to hinder anything related to conservatism. This is what I call brainwashing.

"I'll be taking my kids out of school next year during the election campaign because they will be sick during that time."

"Going to see the president is certainly an experience, but what did the child learn from that?"

Reminds me of when the Challenger exploded. The principal ushered us all back to our classrooms because there was apparently no educational value in watching history.

It's sad how many people think we need permission from the government to do things, even a ton of people on this site.

I like your e-mail, I was more Rummy less Powell in mine:

Thanks for the link. Here is the E-mail I sent to the Superintendent:

Dear Mr. Keen, Since when is a speech by the President of the United States not educational. You sir are a fool and a prime example of what's wrong with our school systems today. I'll bet she knows how to put condoms on bananas. I can only assume that since you think there was nothing for this young lady to learn from BUSH in his speech, you have betrayed your own feelings. HOMESCHOOLING is the only hope left when there are people like YOU in positions where you can ruin futures. I supose if she had lied, and called in sick, that would be OK with you. What message are you sending? Lying is OK, BUSH is worthless. You sir need to take a long hard look in the mirror, your students are not being served by you. Semi-respectfully, Mister Baredog

Here's the link to the district's Eighth Grade Social Studies Curriculum:

http://www.wws.k12.in.us/cd/parents/social_studies/CR45452.HTM

This child can relate her experience to a number of the stated objectives of the district curriculum.

Superintendent Keen probably would have arranged bus transportation for the whole school to a Clinton event...

I heard this on Garrison's show thismorning while I was mopping. Boy, is this superintendant going to regret his smarmy decision. By now, it has hit Drudge, and people have sent it to Hannity and O'Reilly!

Garrison was really hot about it, because the Indianapolis Children's Choir, of which this girl is a member, is nationally known. They tour Europe and make appearances all over the USA.

This is a giant blunder by someone who is no doubt a democrat, and I will bet the school board calls him on the carpet.

Yea teach her to lie

NO,no no! I am not advocating lying. Sick days should have been in quotes. In the corporate world don't we take those "sick" days because we have them to use?

I should have used a sarcasm tag
