Mummified children's bodies found at Polish flat
WARSAW (Reuters) - Polish police said on Monday they had arrested a couple after discovering the corpses of their four children at their flat, three of them in barrels and at least two of them mummified.
It was not known how long the children, two newborns and nine-year-old twins, had been dead.
"All evidence indicates that the children were killed by the parents. The cause of death...was drowning," said Dariusz Krawczyk, a police spokesman in the central city of Lodz.
Police discovered the corpses on Saturday when they were searching for a suspected thief in a flat in Lodz.
They said three bodies were found in barrels and the fourth was wrapped in plastic.
The 30-year-old mother, who is pregnant, was detained on Saturday. She failed to give any coherent explanation.
The 29-year-old father, wanted in connection with several thefts and burglaries, was arrested on Sunday.
Father could cover it up for her. But at this point, this is just a guess. Let's wait to see what really happened.
