The breed isn't vicious. If trained properly (improperly), any dog will be vicious. Pits are very powerful dogs, pound-for-pound. That's why ill-intended people choose them as "pets." A pit raised in a loving environment will be just as friendly as a collie raised in the same kind of environment.

For some reason though, it seems that thugs gravitate towards this breed and take some kind of odd sense of pride in having vicious dogs.

Loving people don't choose the most dangerous breed of dog in existence as their pets. Only people who want to use the dog to intimidate or harm others do.

You are gonna have those here that believe that Pits are the worst breed of any dog that exists. FTR, I own a red nosed Pit and she is a big baby. We also have 4 kids and I completely trust her around them and them around her. Ruby is as gentle as a dog comes. Sadly there are too many "macho" types out there that want a "bad ass" dog and thus the irresponsible rearing of the breed.
