Flag-raising In Support Of U.S. Troops

Though Sunday's noon flag-raising at the Hallie Peace Memorial Park is the first since winter, organizers say the timing isn't politically motivated--even as the nation prepares for possible war. "Soldiers fight and soldiers die and politics is not something on their minds at the time," said event organizer Terry Giordano.

As many as 50 by-standers came in support of U.S. troops, including Gulf War Veteran John Dahl and his 9-year-old daughter. "It's important for people to realize everything we have here and how important our freedoms and rights are," said Dahl.

Members of the Army National Guard's 128th Infantry Battalion and students from Chippewa Falls High School helped raise the 25 flags. While the ceremony lasted minutes, the hope now is the sight of the flying Star Spangled Banners will spark others to support the efforts of U.S. soldiers.

Thank you Freepers!
Thanks for troop support. 03/16/2003 - armymarinemom:
I got a phone call from the sand box this morning. My son said that news of rallies to support our troops has reached Kuwait. He asked that I thank everyone involved because support from home means the world to our troops.
