Look, I defend Israel on this forum as stridently as anyone.  If something wreaks of anti-Semitism, I shoot it down immediately.  In the instance of the USS Liberty incident, I cannot defend Israel.  Perhaps I'll never know the whole truth regarding the incident, but I do know this.  Over a two hour period the attack, utilizing rockets, cannon fire and torpedoes from jet fighters and torpedo boats, left 34 Americans dead and 171 injured.  The length and severity of that opperation is pretty hard to explain away.

I don't think this issue wreaks of anti-Semitism.  And using your example, please remind us where the United States has perpetrated a similar act.  This has nothing to do with Jew-hating or anything else.  It's an incident that happened that has tarnished the Israeli state if for no other reason, than that they have failed to explain how they could have perpetrated the event over a two hour period of time without knowing the true identity of the ship.  They either f'd up beyond anything I've seen before, or they intentionally perped the event for whatever reason.

Now, does discusing this incident imply that Israel shouldn't exist, or is an iligitimate state?  Does it imply that Jews are bad people.  Hell no.  When the United States screws up it takes it's lumps.  When Israel screws up it's in the same boat.  End of story.

You two need to develop a little thicker skin. This topic needn't turn into a bashing thread. It's a legitimate issue. Not everyone has seen a rational discuss of it before. You two were the first two people to take the topic off course. If you wish to defend Israel on the topic, do so. I'd be interested to hear what you have to offer.
