I know this was tried in Arkansas. Larry George is one of the few Libertarians in the NW.

Larry George is one of the few Libertarians in the NW.

He's goofy for dreaming this one up.

Sounds great. Let the liberals funnel tons of money into the government.

You'd think they'd be happy to have PBS and NPR to waste money on.

Since you can earmark your voluntary taxes, could you designate a "Prosecute Democrats" tax? Or a "Kill The Whales" tax?

It could be kind of fun.

In addition to creating the fund, Senate Bill 553 would allow donors to earmark how their money is used. If it's not feasible for the money to be used as intended, it would be returned.

This doesn't sound so bad to actually implement with our regular tax system. It'd sure provide one hell of a reality check to politicians that want to spend other people's money, and they can't fund it because nobody wants to spend money on it.

I doubt it'll happen, though. But it'd be interesting to watch.

Larry George is a thoughtful and courageous leader, and his bill has great value as a tool to explain (cheaply) just how stupid these complainers are who say that taxes should be higher.

Sounds like a great idea to me! All the people that were so disappointed because measure 28 didn't pass can write a check, send your money in and keep your big government dreams alive!
Multnomah county can't even keep criminals behind bars:
http://www.inmatereleases.org
but they can spend $5million on solar powered parking meters, they are researching an idea to build a $10million ice-skating rink in downtown Portland, they are trying to bring a pro baseball team to town, the list goes on....

Hmmm.

Dear State of Oregon:

I am sending a contibution in the amount of $##.##. I want this contribution used to remove all unconstitutional, so-called 'gun control' laws from the state code.

If this is not practical, I want the money used to remove all traces of so-called 'affirmative action' from the state code.

In the alternative I want the money used to ....

:)

Exactly !

The (literally) psychotic bureaucrats in Oregon are
truly out of control. And their propaganda apparatus
is appalling...the @$$!# Medford Mail-Tribue keeps
wailing about the "funding crisis"....LYING B@ASTARDS!
It's a SPENDING crisis !!!!!!!!

The state of Oregon is in a multi-billion dollar
deficit (don't believe the state-gov 'estimates')
yet blows millions on obnoxious and offensive
billboards of some vaucously grinning office
woman saying "thank you Oregon for banning
smoking in offices". !!!!! What the f$##?

thank you nanny, for....

let's see...they're using OUR money to propagandize
us...nothing new there I guess.

and a new $3 million project to 'rebuild downtown
Jacksonville' (which doesn't need it) just began.

they're outta control i tell ya....

truly, the bureaucrats 'style' has become more
and more 'frantic' in recent years....every whim
or media-twitch has them frantically passing new
"laws", new ordinances...new permits...new fees....
new taxes; and as always the most frightening...
new 'plans' !

I think they must be sensing the oncoming wall...

Already 87% of our productive value is going to
taxes of one form or another....there ain't much
left...before it's 100%...and then there just
ain't any more.

Anyway, the law/fund is a great idea...a whole
new meaning to the term 'political satire'....this
time from within! cheap counter-propaganda
against the dearly-held notion refuse-reality
crowd.

Thoughtful citizens of these states should immediately write a check in the amount of 2¢ (two cents) and send it in.

Maybe the cost of processing the checks would send a message!!

This is a great idea. Time to tell the tax-and-spend liberals to put up or shut up.

BTW, did you know that 99.97% of Massachusetts taxpayers are cold-hearted conservatives?
