Has anyone seen any current information regarding those three ships that are supposed to be "cruising" in the Indian Ocean in "ever decreasing circles.". These were suspected of carrying contraband weaponry from Iraq.
Any news??
To: Logic n' Reason
They are radio-silent, so probably not much sigintel.

Not since yesterday, but I'm sure our military are right on top of it. :) Wish our military would steer those ships right back at Saddam.

I don't know, I am pretty skeptical about that one...we need more proof from other sources before I start worrying about that one. I find it unlikely that those ships are out there, we know they are out there, and haven't done anything about them.

I heard speculation that the huge cargo ships may be carrying contraband material intending to head back to Iraq after the appeasers win and the inspectors leave. The Captains may have orders to scuttle the ships if approached. Odd that this is not getting any news time, that I know of anyway.

I thought we checked ALL ships going into or out of IRAQ??

In addition to radio silence (which is against maritime law) they are flying the flags of three countrys.

That would be pretty good if true.
All of Saddams nasty toys aboard ships.
All ships in one place.
Ships ordered to scuttle if approached.
Approach! Approach!

What about those maritime commando squads employed by the companies that insure ships and their cargo? Those guys can silently board a moving ship, and overtake the crew in 90 seconds. They make the guys in "Proof of Life" look like pussies.

I thought we checked ALL ships going into or out of IRAQ?? Don't forget that iraq is capable of moving stuff through these ports also:
Syrian ports and harbors
Baniyas
Jablah
Latakia
Tartus

Odd that this is not getting any news time, that I know of anyway. A day or so ago (it mushes together in my memory), Rumsfeld was asked about this. General Meyers (?) denied that they knew anything about ships running around in radio silence.
... for what it's worth ...

Don't forget that Syrian ports are on the MEDITERRANEAN!

Any links to previous threads or news stories? I'd like to learn more about this little scenario....

When the question was asked Rumsfield almost got whiplash turning his head to Myers. I wasn't eyeballing the TV screen when Rumsfeld was asked the question, so I missed the near-whiplash. But, the question itself did make me look up to pay attention to the answer.
What struck me wasn't Myer's answer but its manner in which he gave it. He appeared like a man hurriedly yanking up his open fly while everybody watches, eager to move along to the next question, desperately hoping there'd be no followup.

P3 and submarines can find them.

Hopefully, if they have solid proof of these ships' cargo, they will sink them. They don't have to mention it to a soul - in my book.
