Yesterday, February 17, 2003, an IDF engineering force discovered an explosive belt hidden inside a paint can. The force had been stationed in Nablus for six weeks and had thwarted many terror attacks during this time. The commander of the force, Lt. Col. Amir told the army website: "We got intelligence information about the possibility that a suicide bomber was trying to infiltrate Israel. Due to this information we spread our troops out through the whole city. We also set up checkpoints."
Amir continued and said, "At a later stage, we also received intelligence information about the existence of an explosive belt, so we told the soldiers to perform more in depth searches. In one of the first checkpoints the soldiers stopped a car with two Palestinian passengers. One was very old and the other was a young man. In the back seat were paint cans, which the soldiers checked as part of the routine. However, in one of the cans they found a bag which when they opened it, they found to contain a 15 kg explosive belt. A 15kg explosive belt is a very serious explosive."
Lt. Col. Amir noted that "The terrorist organizations, whilst attempting to carry out a terrorist attack, employ people to bring weapons to the terrorists in the field. The terrorists who plan terrorist attacks take great pains to ensure that the suicide bomber and the explosive belt are kept separate up until the last possible moment. That way, the terrorist is not caught with the belt." He continued to explain that "Due to the fact that the soldiers have to do what is essentially very hard and thankless job, a success on this scale boosts the soldiers' morale and increases their motivation by showing them that the work they are doing is really very important."
Increase in Attempted Terrorist Attacks
"Recently, we have seen a sharp rise in the amount of attempted terrorist attacks. In order to thwart the terrorist's attempts, we are constantly changing our tactics. We stay in a certain area for only a few weeks before moving on to another, to ensure that the Palestinians do not learn our strategies. We coordinate our activity and try not to be predictable. We set up surprise checkpoints in unexpected places, sometimes in places that we have never operated in before" concluded the Lt. Col.
Of course, to erradicate the cancer of cult induced proxy warfare, the Saudi, French, German,Chinese,Russian and Cuban enablers must also be addressed.
