So now - again! - patriotic Americans confront the so-called "Peace Movement". Leftists accept at face value the name of any leftist organization. So they consider the "Peace Movement" to be serious people interested in peace.
Christians take war seriously. Human life is sacred. Shedding blood requires vital reasons. Some Christian denominations believe nothing justifies violence. These genuine pacifists often choose to live in their own communities apart from society. They rely upon love as a substitute for government. When asked if they would use violence to protect their own family, they honestly answer "No." These Christians deserve our respect, even if we strongly disagree with them.
The Bahai opposed the taking of human life. They are vegetarians as well. Like pious Christians, the Bahai have often suffered persecution for these beliefs. And just as with Quakers, Amish and other Christians who reject violence entirely, we may strongly disagree with the moral conclusions the Bahai believe. But they deserve our respect.
The Jain of India oppose violence against any form of life. They wear cloth masks over their mouths to avoid inadvertently killing insects. This is an extreme form of pacifism, but it is a sincerely held belief seriously practiced.
Ultimately, complete pacifism is impossible. Anyone with an infection will have white blood cells murdering millions of deleterious microorganisms. This is without regard to the conscious choices of the sick human.
All human food is some type of life. One may in conscience embrace vegetarianism, but vegetarianism requires killing plants to nourish the human body. Between cannibalism and vegetarianism lies a principled, moral choice that each of us makes about different forms of life.
The "Peace Movement" lacks these principles. It has no interest in non-violence or peace. Members of this movement oppose war and violence selectively. The "Peace Movement" has no problem coercing money from American taxpayers to give "foreign aid" to democidal regimes. In fact, member of this group support these payments even when it is clear that tyrants will use the money to buy weapons.
The "Peace Movement" frets about hungry Iraqi children, but ignores Kurdish children who have been victims of chemical and biological weapons used by the Iraqi government. And the "Peace Movement" never says a word about the millions of unborn children who have been murdered in the name of convenience.
What genuinely unites members of the "Peace Movement"? Reflexive hatred of America. The members of this so-called movement accept the protection and liberty of America, but exercise their protections and liberties only against America.
Will the "Peace Movement" people traveling to Baghdad march up and down the streets of that city with posters saying "Saddam the Murderer Must Go!"? Will they walk through Iran with banners demanding "No Nuclear Weapons for Iran!" or "No Religion of Hate in Iran!"? No. Confronting true evil and real danger terrifies them. Besides, Iraqi and Iranian television would not cover their marches. Such demonstrations only work in those tolerant and peaceful societies that accept dissent.
The fakery and cowardice of the "Peace Movement" runs even deeper. Why do those people so concerned with peace not organize marches in the streets of America demanding that Saddam Hussein and Kim Jong Il stop murdering their own people? Because this would not be chic, and because someone might mistake them for patriots. These cowards are even afraid of being unfashionable.
Loathing America is sophisticated. The "Peace Movement" considers rich and powerful America to be the root cause of all war.
Peace Movement members have never seriously challenged the Marxist analysis of cause and effect. And there is a very good reason for this.
During much of this century, the so-called "Peace Movement" received enormous financial and political support from the Soviet Union. The Soviets gave more aid to the "Peace Movement" in American than in military and economic aid to North Vietnam.
The "Peace Movement" always picks and chooses which wars and which participants in a war must be harangued about the need for non-violence. While Churchill held off Hitler and Hitler and Stalin were pals, the Marxists "Peace Movement" organized strikes in armaments factories and condemned Britain for fighting the Nazis. This changed only when Hitler invaded Russia.
When American armies enter lands, those lands become peaceful and open. Even though we bemoan the smug indifference of Germany and Japan to our pending war with Iraq, those two militarized nations became peaceful lands after America conquered them. America not only seeks peace in the world, it makes warlike nations peaceful. America itself is the true Peace Movement.
As apt a name for them as you'll ever likely see. As in something that floats.
I think of them as more of a "Bowel" movement... they are nothing but ****.
The "peace" protestors in SF rioted vandalizing a bank, a Starbucks, and an INS office.
This is not a peace movement. The press has shielded them from scrutiny to ensure that more useful idiots join the party.
Odd that they contest the 2000 election but stand fully behind Saddam's "unopposed" re-election. Fidel Castro runs unopposed as well.
That picture is a great find and just as true today.
