RECALL GRAY DAVIS UPDATE

Dear Friends:

Thank you so much for all of your support you have given to the Recall Gray Davis Committee.

It has been an incredible week!

UPDATE ON INITIAL PROGRESS IN RECALL EFFORT

Since we launched the Recall Gray Davis effort we have been overwhelmed by the response we have gotten.

The official website of the Recall Gray Davis Committee – www.RecallGrayDavis.com - has received over 1,000,000 hits. That’s right – OVER ONE MILLION HITS.

Media has played a critical role in spreading word of our recall efforts. I’ve enjoyed talking with many of you on talk radio programs all over the state including Roger Hedgecock in San Diego, KSFO and KGO in the San Francisco Bay Area, KERN Radio in Bakersfield, KABC in Los Angeles and countless others. Last night I spoke to listeners of the #1 rated radio station in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Why Cincinnati, Ohio? Because the people at the station have paid attention to what we are doing and they hope we are successful so we can send a message to people throughout America that they need to take action when their government wrongs them.

I’m most excited by the media coverage Fox News Channel will be providing to our effort on Monday night when the O’Reilly Factor will be reporting on the effort.

We have signed up tens of thousands of Californians to join our efforts. This is truly a remarkable grass roots effort.

RECALL GRAY DAVIS RALLY

Saturday, FEBRUARY 22nd

10:30 AM – 12:00 Noon

This Saturday, February 22nd we will be conducting the first Recall Gray Davis Rally at the State Capitol in Sacramento from 10:30 AM to 12:00 Noon. Many of you have already RSVP’d to say you’ll be there. You can click here for more information.

If you haven’t already done so, I encourage you to go to our website and read more about this first gathering of recall forces. We need to build as large of a crowd as possible so I hope you will spread word of the rally to everyone you know!

We’ve been told to expect a heavy media presence at the Recall Gray Davis Rally, including a live broadcast on radio, and we have even received word that a press crew from the United Kingdom will be covering the event!

STATUS OF RECALL PETITIONS

We are right now awaiting certification of the recall petitions from the Secretary of State. The soonest that will occur will be February 20, although it could be a bit later than this. We will be uploading the petition to our website the minute it is available, and you will be able to print out a copy and begin obtaining signatures as soon as we do. Don’t worry – we will be sending out an update as soon as the petitions are available.

If you have any trouble downloading the petitions we will also be able to email them and as necessary send them out through the U.S. Postal Service as well.

FUNDING NEXT STAGE OF RECALL EFFORT

As we begin to prepare to send out petitions and commence a paid advertising effort to alert Californians to the Recall Gray Davis effort, I must ask for your support in the form of a financial contribution. We’ve already been so pleased to receive contributions from supporters in both California and throughout the nation.

But we all know this effort will be costly, and we also know that Gray Davis is already raising millions of dollars to defeat this recall attempt. Davis is forming a “SAVE GRAY COMMITTEE” (yes this is its actual name!) and they have decided to use the same tactics used by President Clinton in his impeachment. They are attacking you, the supporters of this recall, as extremist nuts as a way to mislead the public. We can’t let them get away with it!

In order to continue building on the success we have already achieved, I need you to go make a contribution right now with whatever amount you can afford. You can make a contribution by going to our secure contribution site by clicking here.

Whether it is $35, $50, $250 or more, your financial contribution will ensure that Gray Davis does not manage to buy his way out of the mess he’s created for California and the great citizens of this state.

Thank you again.

Sincerely,

The Honorable Howard Kaloogian

California State Assemblyman 1994-2000

Chairman, Recall Gray Davis Committee

P.S. This recall effort will be the first recall of a statewide official to qualify for the ballot in California history. That’s right – we are making history, and without the dedication and commitment of so many of you it would not be possible

To make a contribution to our campaign please click the contribution button below:

You may also mail in a contribution to the address below:

Recall Gray Davis Committee

I hope to meet you personally at our Recall Gray Davis Rally in Sacramento on February 22 at the State Capitol.

Very good Dale. I was surprised to see Davis' negatives over 70% in the last few days. How can this be for a guy who was reelected just four months ago?

Had Bush given Simon the support he gave his brother in Florida, this recall wouldn't be necessary.

Wasting time, money, enthusiasm for a project that has as great or better a chance of strengthening Davis and/or the Dems as hurting them.

Focus on winning elections in 2004 and 2006, not rehashing ones lost just 3 months ago.

I think you may be right. I saw the leader of this effort on The O'Reilly Factor last night and found him to be less than convincing. He first admitted that this is their 4th attempt to get enough signatures to oust Gray and then went on when pressured by O'Reilly, to say that the reason they want him out is because Gray has not taken any action yet to fulfill his campaign promises concernting the budget. They may have good cause to recall this super liberal but they surely need a more effective, more articulate leader or PR guy to speak for them!

I thought when reading about this on FR this thing had good momentum but after seeing this interview last night, I don't see it ever going anywhere. Like you said, it will likely just energize the left.

You are right...it is a good thing my new Sony TV has bullet proof glass. He (Jim Costa) failed to define Greys hiding the enormity of the budget deficit prior to the election. Of course he couldn't have gotten away it with out the help of the Lame Stream Press.

I think that shortly you will see Howard Kaloogian as the main spoksperson for the Recall effort and Costa fade into the backround. When that happens it won't be lackluster and meek.

There were 2 efforts started independantly that have now joined into one.

Agreed. Give it a little time to develop. Word of mouth and the power of the internet are the tools to do the job. It's all coming together.

Why put off to 2004 or 2006, when the state constitution allows us to do now? The cost of doing nothing now is higher then any political price paid down the road.

We're gonna hemorrhage so damn many billions before the next election, it may not matter anyway.

FYI - Ted Costa not Jim :)

And yes, Ted was miserable last night and I cannot for the life of me figure out why he wasn't prepped before he went out.

Today Kaloogian is on Hedgecock. Tomorrow Kaloogian is on KSFO with Melanie Morgan. Friday night with Al Rantel on KABC - there are others, these are just three I've heard about.

Bottom line - the recall forces have an effective spokesman, it just isn't Ted Costa (who can focus on working the anti-tax network or something).

Bill O'Reilly raised a good point on last night's interview. "How is removing Gray going to solve California's budget crisis?" As much as I hate what Gray has done to California, whoever takes his place isn't going have an easier time.

It seems that laying off excessive government personnel will only exacerbate the already high unemployment rate in California. Raising taxes won't help California out of the recession either.

California is between a rock and a hard place.

Two questions would be on the ballot first
whether to remove Davis
and then who to replace him and everyone
who wants to replace him would have to run.
So we could get a good guy elected this year
and not wait till 2006.

Thanks for the correction...Now that I think of it I should have known it wasn't Jim Costa.

Bill Simon didn't have an ounce of fight in him, that's how David was re-elected. Simon couldn't decide what it was he was running away from... his Pro-Life position, or his financial past. So he ran away from both.

Despite Simon's pathetic candidacy, Davis only won something like 13 out of 47 counties.

California politics are as big a mess as its budget.
