Cities for Peace, a grass-roots movement backed by nearly 90 city councils and county governments, gathered in Washington yesterday to oppose a U.S.-led attack on Iraq.

"The main message is that we can win without war," said Martha Honey, director of foreign policy at the Institute for Policy Studies, the main group behind the grass-roots anti-war movement.

But some organizations dispute the claim that Saddam does not pose a grave threat to national security.

Kathy Wood, co-leader of the D.C. Chapter of Free Republic, a conservative Internet grass-roots group, said that these city councils are passing resolutions without seeing the full scope of the current security threat.

"Do they think these protests are going to keep a bomb from dropping on them?" Miss Wood asked. "In the long run, what they are doing is undermining the ability of the president to act in the best interest of the American public and our national defense."

The reporter, Sarah Marcisz, called me yesterday to find out the DC Chapter's position with regard to this subject. I was on my way to the French Embassy Protest organized by the American University College Republicans. She received way more information than she asked for, but has quoted me fairly.

Good response, next time they ask you that question tell them it is campaign 04 organized by Hillary to try and defeat President Bush.

I have responded here several times that days prior to Senator Lott stepping down from the Majority position, I heard on Fox News in the a.m., I don't remember who it was being interview, or the Fox gal doing the interview, I was so stunned by what was said. The Dems were so upset about the election and President Bush taking their idea of Homeland Security and demanding that it be pass before new Congress took office, that they were going to use Homeland Security against President Bush in the upcoming election. I have never heard it spoken that way again but it was said.

They the dems planned to complain about lack of funding, and that cities/states with budget problems not getting the funding, and blame President Bush.

Since then Hillary has on at least two occasions blasted President Bush about Homeland Security. Mayors were in Washington and met with President Bush and the Dems, and since then we have seen city after city, town after town vote to oppose a war in Iraq.

Some cities/town have gone so far to stop their police forces arresting illegals saying that it was Federal not State immigration laws being broken.

I only wish I had that interview taped or noted who was being interviewed, but I think it was on a Monday a.m. with a Fox gal, at the time every news alert was about what Lott had said, and what he was going to do. I would recognize her (Fox gal) if I saw her picture. I don't remember who the dem or dems were but think they were adivsors to dnc.

Since that day I have watch an organized campaign throughout this country, with the dems trying to undermine President Bush, as if they were hoping for a terrorist attack so they could proudly say "I told you so".

I also believe that the President is very aware of the dems action throughout this country that is why they are trying to keep Americans Alert, because of what dem politicians have been doing.

If these 90 city councils are so adamant about America's "bullying," then why don't they enact a "Happy Saddam Day" in their respective cities?

That would make more sense.

You all are doing such a wonderful job - at long last Free Republic is being taken seriously.

BTW, I was just checking the weather forecast for the D.C. area (my daughter and family live in Alexandria), and looks like you're going to get hit with some really gnarly weather this weekend. Maybe it'll deter some of these bubble-headed peaceniks.

These 'Cities for Peace' Leftist anti-American protesters need to be called exactly what they are:

SADDAMITE WEASELS
ON PARADE

Which IMO would make a GREAT counter-demonstration sign for all those who wish to use it...

Good job.

I find also despicable the left's cynicism over the administrations announcement for preparedness. God forbid that the plastic and duct tape is actually needed and it saves lives.

These people should be ashamed. And using their voice on the senate floor to bad mouth this president and homeland security is dishonoring their titles as honorable senators. As a matter of fact I think they've even dispensed using the term "honorable" when addressing each other on the floor. That should say a lot.

/rant off.

We got a storm tonight here in Chicago. Actually looking at the map, there will be a massive snow storm from here to New York.

At least a foot snowing all day long on Saturday.

Some cities/town have gone so far to stop their police forces arresting illegals saying that it was Federal not State immigration laws being broken.

I saw some Councilman or something from Seattle on Fox News earlier this week saying exactly that. He also said there was no money for the city to pay for this.

My thought on this is for the Federal government to pay a reward for each illegal that is caught and deported. Say $500 per deportee, half to the cop half to the city. If a citizen detains an illegal they get the whole reward.

This plan would motivate cities and cops to arrest illegals, as well let the illegals know they are no longer safe to come in as they please. It would also help state budgets as they would no longer have to pay to house, feed and educate people who shouldn't be here in the first place.

Great job, Kathy. I'm glad she (Sarah Marcisz) got in contact with you. She called me early yesterday afternoon and I “walked” her over to the DCC website. I was glad to see y’all had added a telephone number on your Contact page. Hopefully this will lead to more calls for comment.
