German Security Source: Bin Laden Tape 'Authentic'
Reuters ^

BERLIN (Reuters) - German security sources said on Wednesday they believed the voice exhorting Muslims to fight the "allies of the devil" heard on a tape broadcast by a Qatar television channel was that of Osama bin Laden.
"Based on current findings, it appears that the tape is authentic," a German security source told Reuters. "The examinations of the recording are continuing."
U.S. officials have said the tape, broadcast Tuesday on al-Jazeera television, was probably genuine. They said it showed links between Iraq and bin Laden's al Qaeda network, blamed for the September 11, 2201, suicide attacks on U.S. cities.
The taped message urged Muslims to fight the United States and repel any war against Iraq -- but also lashed out at Baghdad's leaders as "infidels."

They know it to be authentic because dear leader Gerhard lent assistance in its production?

I have no argument with the voice on the tape being UBL. I'm just not convinced it's current. I think he's been in cahoots with Iraq for much longer than the public has been told. Now if he had referred to Colin Powell's U.N. comments from last week, I'd believe he is still alive....

An eighth grader could put together an "authentic" Bin Laden tape using sound bites from previous Osama exhortations that are all over the internet.
Sure it's his voice, but if he were alive his ego would demand he prove it by having opics of him holding up The Tora Bora Times.
Dead, dead, dead.

Well isn't that special. Germany says the recent OBL tape is genuinine. A tape that proves an Iraq/Al Quada connection and still they are against war with Iraq.
Just another reason to remove our troops from Germany and boycott their country until the people elect leaders who do not hate this country.

For some reason I don't think Bin Laden is dead. We have no proof that he is dead. I think he escaped Afghanistan before we started heavy bombing and was able to watch the goings on from a vantage point. I think he was too much of a coward to stick around and commit suicide. I believe the U.S. knows he is still alive. We probably will never see his face on video again because it is easier for him just to make audio tapes and that way we will never know where he is.

It didn't to me either, although I'd have to listen to it and compare it to other tapes to be sure.

It didn't to me either... thanks for that, but we seem to be in the minority.
in the end, i don't suppose it matters much if that particular insect is alive or dead:
in the summertime, swatting individual wasps can be fun/satisfying,
but until you incinerate the nest, they don't really go away ...

I'm thinking he probably babbled into a microphone for hours and hours, while lying on his back in his deathbed, and they're just using relevant clips whenever it's deemed appropriate.
I haven't read the transcript. But as I listened yesterday, I don't recall hearing references to recent events.
Besides, if he really wanted to inspire the Muslim World to rise up and kill the infidels, he'd show himself. He'd speak LIVE.
To: prisoner6
Why do you suppose he wouldn't show himself? After another year or so, it won't matter how many tapes show up if he doesn't show his face.

Heck I wouldn't be surprised if he is in Pakistan or Syria. This guy is too much of a coward to get killed.

... He'd speak LIVE a rational person would think so, but these vermin operate on a different wavelength than civilized human beings.
if the voice on that tape was in fact obl,
injury/illness/stress sure seems to have altered its tonal qualities ...

Has anyone on this chain yet posited the theory that we (US) are the source of this tape? The timing seems particularly convenient to our linkage arguments, and it helps deprive the extremists of a martyr by continuing the myth that he might have actually survived the Tora Bora onslaught.
