A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

Cogito, ergo FReepum
(I think, therefore, I FReep)

"Out of the ether of cyberspace, there coalesced a group of like- minded Free Republic posters who wanted to actively oppose the bias in the mainstream media. The result was Citizens Coalition for Responsible Media (CCRM)."

"The La Mancha graphic symbolizes the efforts of the group. Sometimes doing battle with the mediots seems like the good and chivalrous knight Don Quixote charging a windmill with spurs set and lance leveled. It is fun and breaks the tension."

Today, we are pleased to feature the Chairman of the CCRM as

ONE OF FR'S FINEST

"Bert and Peacerose after a lunch celebrating the Eagle Award"

bert
Freeper since 4-09-98
Kingsport, East TN

Bert chose a derivative of his middle name, Albert, as his screen name. He is not the bert of Bert and Ernie, nor A+bert, nor razorback bert or any of the other berts. He may, in fact, be the original bert of Free Republic!

Bert has attended many FReeper events-he was at CPAC 2003 recently. Below is a favorite FReep of his.

"Bert on the Clinton White House FReep line with poster provided by the good folks of the DC chapter."

"This photo was made in August 2000 at the White House with the DC Chapter at their regular Saturday morning FReep. I attended most of the Clinton-era gatherings in Washington but always missed protesting at the White House. As the Clinton Presidency was coming to a close, I realized I was missing the opportunity of a lifetime and if I didn't go, would regret it forever. I went one Saturday and felt whole."

In November 2000, bert began a campaign to form an offboard Freeper staffed organization to study and develop a plan of action to bring to bear the talent and resources of Free Republic to dampen the bias of the American Media.

This group was named the Citizens Coalition for Responsible Media (CCRM) and they are a bonafide Free Republic Network Chapter. In fact, they won the coveted FRee Republic Eagle Award for Best New Chapter 2001-2002.

"FRN Eagle Award for Best New Chapter"

Perhaps the finest accomplishment of CCRM is their website www.fairpress.org

The Freeper Peacerose is webmistress and works mightily to convey the message that the media is biased against that which is right and good.

The website www.fairpress.org contains much data. For instance, each week, one hideous example of media bias (suggested by the general readership) is selected for closer examination and discussion. So, when you feel your personal media bias tolerance gauge rising into the red zone, don't throw stuff at the TV screen! Send your suggestion to outrage@fairpress.org.

The site also provides an "Activist Handbook", a helpful tool for all who share concerns about media bias. The history and mission of CCRM is also provided at this wonderful site. Do take time to visit it. It is quite interesting and informative and Peacerose keeps it very current.

Bert sent us some Post-it notes that he feels are "of some historical value and have a story." We couldn't agree more and are posting them here for all to enjoy and reminisce.

"One of the great events of FReeper history occurred on Saturday October 31, 1998 and was known as the March For Justice. Thousands of Freepers from all over the country gathered in the shadow of the Washington Monument and joined Jim Robinson in his cry....'IMPEACH, IMPEACH, IMPEACH'."

"At a pizza dinner for all that evening, Patrick Knowlton invited anyone interested to accompany him the next morning on a guided tour of Fort Marcy Park and a first hand original source recounting of events the day Vince Foster died. What a treat!!! The Vince Foster discussions brought me to Free Republic to begin with."

"Of historical interest is the wording...... note the adventure was called a 'Field Trip' or a 'Raid'. This is seemingly unimportant except from our present look back, the post-its were not labeled a "Midnight FReep". The reason of course is plain to see, the verb FReep had not yet been invented. As a matter of fact the noun Freeper had only recently been in common usage."

"As we walked through the park we became aware of the fact that although it was early on a Sunday morning, other, more adventurous souls had preceded us. The post-its are the record of that adventure.”

"The only note of real value to us was the one 'Wrong Cannon FReepers'. The spot where VF's body was found was some considerable distance from the parking lot and near a cannon. Our eventual goal was that cannon. There were several, and from a distance, one off to the side looked like the spot. The midnight Freeper friends advised us otherwise and provided an arrow to set us on the right path. That is after all the FReeper way. Gently nudge FReeper friends in the right direction and persuade them in the error of their ways."

Enjoy Your Day, bert!

You are One of FR's Finest!

1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar.
2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up.
3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit.
4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it.
5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me an FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer
