Agents Raid Methamphetamine "Superlab" in Manteca
A raid by drug agents last night yielded what police are terming a methamphetamine "superlab." It's an operation that was capable of producing more than 150 pounds of the drug each week.
When agents stormed into the house at 20333 Airport Way in Manteca, they broke up one of the largest methamphetamine operations ever discovered in the Central Valley.
Police had been investigating the operation for two-months, and watching the Manteca house for weeks, but their probe didn't prepare them for what they'd find. Inside the house was enough drug making equipment to produce $450,000 worth of methamphetamine every 48 hours.
According to drug agents, methamphetamine sells for about $9,000 per pound. Working at full capacity, the lab was capable of cranking out drugs worth $1.5 million per week.
Two people were arrested at the scene, and two others at two separate smaller methamphetamine labs in Lathrop. Three of the suspects are men and the other is a 16-year-old girl. The names of the suspects were not immediately released.
Immediately after the raid, drug agents in special protective suits removed equipment and a large amount of methamphetamine from the house.
Deputies from both the Stanislaus and San Joaquin sheriff's departments participated in the raid, as did agents from the California Multiagency Methamphetamine Enforcement Team.
