just heard a SECOND report that data showed the landing gear TIRES heating up ...remember the shuttle was on auto pilot at the time...has em confused

President notified immediately and he promised NASA all the help they needed. Tom Ridge is involved in helping...Just to be accurate, prez notified immediately after scheduled landing time at 9:16 EST. Probably waited on the off chance it was simply a loss of comm (my speculation).
