WASHINGTON - As we prepare to watch President George Bush give his State of the Union address on Tuesday, we think back to Jan. 18 when Saddam's surrogates were in town protesting any use of force against Iraq.

In scenes reminiscent of the anti-draft, peace-at-any-price days of Vietnam, some 70,000 demonstrators rallied, marched and orated in Washington and as many again were doing the same in San Francisco. There were smaller efforts in other American cities, along with shows of even greater anti-American enthusiasm surging in some foreign capitals.

Dateline D.C. is written by a Washington-based British journalist and political observer.

Wish they'd given his name.

I bookmarked it anyway. :)

Several years ago I went to Austin to see the Commies at a march and rally organized by CISPES to "get the USA out of El Salvador".
Belive me, Communism is NOT dead. There was the usual suspects: radical students, Maoists, Jesuit priests, Maryknoll nuns, homosexuals, drug addicts and homeless people who were probably bribed to be there.
I got the heads up from listening to David Gold on the local AM radio.

Thanks for posting this! More and more articles are coming out about the groups that are sponsoring these marches are communist front organizations.

These anti-American people are parasites who take advantage of the freedom of speech at the same time wanting to overturn our system of Government. Don't understand why the mainstream press doesn't report on this and it is left to the editorial pages for the most part.

Great post! Thanks.

I think it was Whittaker Chambers who said that Communism always uses periods of international tension to promote their agenda based on the theory that fear will drive people to Communism as a means of achieving peace and security.

The thread you referenced is indeed a must read, particularly by those who think anyone that questions "current wisdom" wears a tin-foil hat.

Thanks for the ping. This is a great article, but never did reveal anything about funding (as was implied in the introduction).

Gotta take issue with this:

The comrades from WWP and its offshoots, the International Action Center (IAC) and ANSWER coalition, have a new cause and can dust off their speeches and plots of the 1970s and start a whole new protest industry.

Unfortunately the stalinists have not been off the scene since the 70's. The following article (apparently by an anarchist) includes a very good short history, only partially extracted here. I may have pinged you to this article before:

THE MYSTERIOUS RAMSEY CLARK: STALINIST DUPE OR RULING-CLASS SPOOK?

In August 1990, two months after his return from the LaRouche conference in Copenhagen, with US troops mobilizing to Saudi Arabia, Clark accepted an invitation to lead the National Coalition to Stop US Intervention in the Middle East. This invitation had been extended by members of an orthodox Stalinist sect, the Workers World Party (WWP). Clark had finally found a new home. The Clark-WWP alliance has lasted to this day.

A brief look at the doctrinaire sect's history: WWP is the brainchild of Sam Marcy, intellectual guru at the party's helm until his death in 1998. In 1956, Marcy led the faction in the Socialist Workers Party that supported the Soviet invasion of Hungary, attacking the popular uprising and general strike there as "counter-revolutionary." In 1959, the Marcy clique broke from the Trotskyist SWP to found the more Stalinist WWP. The new group wasted little time in cheering on the brutal Chinese repression of the indigenous culture in Tibet that year (which sent the Dalai Lama and 80,000 refugees fleeing into exile).

Vying with SWP and other parties for top dog position on the radical left, WWP always maintained a front group to suck in neophytes. During the Vietnam era this was Youth Against War & Fascism (YAWF). In the Reagan-Bush era it was People's Anti-War Mobilization (PAM)--which would be the operative group in the National Coalition in 1990.

With glasnost, WWP supported the Kremlin hard-liners who resisted Gorbachev's reforms and disarmament moves. Insisting that China remained a "workers state," WWP supported Deng Xiaoping in the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre, again attacking the protesting students and workers as "counter-revolutionaries." In 1991, WWP supported the KGB coup against Gorbachev.

Following up the mention of Conyers, here's another good summary of leftist treachery, this time by congressional commies:

* FOR THE RECORD * - When Congressmen Support Terrorism -* The Enemies Within *

Uh huh!!!!

I can't help but notice in all the news reporting about ANSWER, few are brave enough to mention it is an off-shoot of the IAC and it's communist leader Ramsey Clark.
