LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Indianapolis photographer Andrew Scalini was sentenced Wednesday to about six months in jail and six months of home detention for taking nude photos of teenage girls.

Scalini, 44, was convicted in November on charges of child exploitation and possession of child pornography. He could be released from jail after 88 days with credits for good behavior and time already served.

An investigation began in October 2001, when a 17-year-old female told her mother that she had posed nude during a session in which she was having her senior high school portraits taken by Scalini. Her family contacted police.

An Indianapolis photographer was sentenced to six months in jail and six months of home detention for taking nude photos of girls.

Police said they eventually learned Scalini took nude photographs of several girls. Four of them, 17 years old at the time the photos were taken, testified at Scalini's trial.

Prosecutors said Scalini convinced the girls to pose nude by telling them it would help them secure jobs as models.

Scalini told investigators he did take nude shots, but only for artistic value, calling them a collaboration.

In addition to the jail and home detention time, Scalini must serve two years of probation, register as a sex offender, and serve 80 hours of community service work.

After Wednesday's sentencing, Scalini expressed regret to Indianapolis television station RTV6.

"I wouldn't do it ever again," he said. "This is not where I want to be in my career at this point in time. It's very upsetting."

I wouldn't worry too much about "my career" if I were him.

His career has as much of a future as a flash bulb.
