KUWAIT CITY - A Kuwaiti soldier accused of spying for Iraq was working on plans to poison American soldiers, a Kuwaiti newspaper reported yesterday.

The Al-Watan newspaper said the Iraqis asked Sgt. Mohammed Hamad al-Juwayed, a food supervisor in the military, to provide information about the catering companies employed by American forces in Kuwait.

The U.S. has deployed more than 17,000 military personnel in Kuwait as part of a buildup for a possible war against Iraq.

The alleged spy also was helping Iraqi agents infiltrate the country with the aim of assassinating Kuwaiti politicians and blowing up oil and power facilities, according to Al-Watan.

The Interior Ministry said al-Juwayed "provided security and military information to the Iraqis and spied on movements of senior Kuwaiti officials with the intent of facilitating terrorist and sabotage operations."

Last summer the Kuwait gov supplied (cooked?)the food for US troops. Anyone know if they still do? Wasn't there a story about British soldiers getting sick a few months ago, too?

The British troops were getting ill in Afghanistan, not Kuwait. But I don't know the food source in that case.

Why would we put our troops in a hostile situation and then invite the hostiles to provide food to poison our men. This is not strategic thinking - probably some holdovers from Slick Willie's tenure doing the thinking.
