Maximize IE's Slave Window Problem ? (Free Download)

Posted on 01/17/2003 11:46:56 AM PST by Dallas

Over the last century, some have tried to solve the problem with IE's slave window not opening in the maximum position. What seems to work for some, hasn't worked for others.

In this month's PCWORLD they recommend this FREE utility.

Good luck....

256,000 sure seemed like a lot of colors back then. And that MicroChannel bus was state of the art! Too bad you couldn't find any adapter cards for it two years later.

I've got some old PC Computing magazines from the early 1990s. Thumbing through them is not unlike thumbing through Sears catalogs from the 1930s. In either case, the merchandise is just as obsolete.

Slave window opens to whatever the size was when it was last closed. If you Maximize it, and end IE, then when you reopen it, it'll maximize. Or are you referring to windows that "Open In A New Window" link?

16 year old whizkid writes new browser
Business & Finance 11 Jan 2003

A superfast new web browser has won a Mullingar student the top prize at this year's Young Scientist competition.
The browser invented by 16 year old Adnan Osmani runs up to five times as fast as normal browsers.

It took him nearly two years and 1.5m lines of code to write it.

The browser - known as XWEBS - allows users to borwse while simultaneously watching a DVD movie. It can talk to the user and will also translate a web page into the language of your choice.

Adnan's parents come from Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. He is a sixth form student at St Finian's College.

Adnan says he has already had interest from half a dozen companies which have stopped by to see the browser at his exhibition stand.

Among thoe showing an interest is Media Lab Europe, the Dublin computer research operation linked to Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

All of my computers run IE and they all suppress pop-ups without add-on software.

Enlighten us, please. You're doing something we'd all like.

Hey, I like this Mozilla. I think I will adapt and switch.

Most things look better, but on FreeRepublic, the line that seperates comments in a thread is really chunky-thick. On Explorer, it is a mere pinstripe. Can this be adjusted?

Well, there's two ways to accomplish the same task: the first is a sort of pain so I'll just go with the second.

Add-on the "MS power toys" for IE 5.5.  These do nothing other than enable a couple menu functions on the Tools drop down.  And there's a couple right-click functions that are enabled but I don't remember what they are and I don't have PT enabled on this machine.

Get them from a Google Search or somewhere like that.  I don't think Microsoft hosts them anymore.

"Install" them.  The power toys aren't executables, they're registry settings so there's no .exe file.....right click the .inf file and select "Add to Registry".

Then go into Tools-Internet Options and hit the Security tab.  Hit the Custom Level button for the Internet Zone and go through the list disabling anything that says Java or Scripting.

On my systems, I just disable everything but if you only disable Java and Scripting that should be fine.

That's it.  Now, when you're browsing, all the Java and VB Scripting is disabled.  Which...rocks as far as I'm concerned because 9 times out of 10 Java and Scripting serves no useful purpose other than to annoy you.

However, you'll find you can't use sites with cookies like FreeRepublic or sites you frequent with Java or Secure HTTP...like your bank.

That's where the power toys come into play: Go to the page you want to enable Java on...click "Tools" then "Add to Trusted Zone" and refresh the page.

You have to do this once, with each site you want full permissions for.  Except for Hotmail. Hotmail makes up sub-Domains virtually every time you go there so, if you use Hotmail, you have to "Add To Trusted Zone" your first 10 - 15 visits there.

That's interesting. On my computer, the windows open really small so that I have to click and drag the corner to make it readable or click the maximize button. Windows is a strange animal. It seems like everybody has different quirks with MS Windows (I'm running XP).

Hmmm.... I am on XP too....

Look in your "Internet Options" "Advanced" Settings place, maybe it was a setting?
