Bush Planning Social Security Benefits For Mexicans
Toogood Reports ^ | January 7, 2003 | Chuck Baldwin

President G.W. Bush has already expressed a strong desire to grant amnesty to hundreds of thousands of illegal Mexican aliens. Now, he is apparently working on a plan to grant Social Security benefits to tens of thousands of Mexicans who do not even live in the United States.

According to the December 19th Washington Post, "Pushed by the Mexican government, the Bush administration is working on a Social Security accord that would put tens of thousands of Mexicans onto the Social Security roster and send hundreds of millions of dollars in benefits south of the border."

Press reports quote Mexican foreign ministry official Arturo Sanikhan as saying that the proposed Social Security accord is intended "to deepen [Mexico's] relationship with the United States and improve the day-to-day lives of Mexicans."

It appears someone needs to remind Mr. Bush that he is President of the United States, not Mexico. Then again, do national boundaries even matter to this administration? Perhaps not.

Secretary of State Colin Powell is already on record as saying that the border between the U.S. and Mexico is not a border between two nations, but "a wall between two rooms of the same house." It is a wall the Bush administration is obviously attempting to remove, by the way.

Granting criminals (illegal aliens) legal protection and sending Social Security benefits to citizens of a foreign nation is the antithesis of the principles of independence and patriotism. Instead, it smacks of internationalism and makes the United States more vulnerable to and dependent upon foreign interests.

It would be nice if people who call themselves conservatives would rise up in opposition to such a preposterous plan, but they won't. They will continue to support this administration even if it means the loss of America's independence, freedom, and constitutional government.

So, while millions of Americans are working two or three jobs to make ends meet, know that President Bush will soon be taking our hard-earned tax dollars and sending it to Mexico in an attempt to buy votes and dismantle our southern border.

I wonder if the people receiving benefits have paid anything into the system. If not, this is nothing more than welfare.

As long as the government continues to leave the doors and windows to our house wide open, there will be no homeland security......

I want to correct the notion that the individuals residing in Mexico that will receive the payments are illegal aliens. They are individuals that worked in the U.S. legally as resident aliens or with Green Cards and managed to earn enough social security credits to be eligible for benefits. My point being that these people did, in fact, pay into the system. In my opinion, if we do not intend to allow these folks to collect the benefits at some point, then I have to question the ethics of taking it out of their pay checks in the first place.

Hey...fair is fair...:-)

This is further evidence of the stupidity of our Marxist social security system and the continued drifting toward the hell of socialism of our political system.

While I agree with you that anyone that has paid, should be entitled, I think you could be wrong about who all will be entitled.

Previous articles have stated that even those that used fake SS numbers would be entitled, if they could prove it.

There is much speculation on this issue with everything in the media based on an "intercepted internal memo"(leak).

It might be self-destruction, but it is better to settle it administratively than to take the chance that it could be settled in the courts.

I am just getting so mad that our country is screwing its own people that Bush will not have my vote come election time...

here, my husband is struggling to hold on to his job, his company claiming bankruptcy as well as threatening to turn over its pension plan to the govt....which is a big screw job.....

of course, we make too much damn money for the dtr to get help at college...

and now our huge social security bill will just get larger thanks to these giveaways...

tax cuts?...for who I might ask....

tax cuts will be another snow job that looks good but does nothing for middle wage earners....nothing for the heart and soul of the country....

when is this going to end????

I agree completely that the potential for fraud will be substantial. I think it's a fair and appropriate course if there is also some serious verification of the recipients. My point was that many folks are crying wolf by strongly implying that every illegal that ever crossed the river would get a payment every month.

I work in Edinburg, Texas...about 15 miles north of the border...and due to the fact that we are woefully short of qualified U.S. citizens with tech skills, we hire many Mexicans to fill those jobs. These are good people that do pay their taxes here and shouldn't be ripped off because we have a serious illegal immigration problem.

I'm with O'Reilly on this...Put the military on the border. Just don't shoot us in the "workforce foot" at the same time...I'd love to have American citizens in those jobs, but until the education community in this country cleans up its act, that's just not gonna happen...:-)

It is not welfare. As I understand it, legal workers from Mexico with green cards, etc. have earned social security benefits because they have paid social security tax. Many other workers from other nations have done the same. But a treaty (maybe not the right word) is needed so that the Mexican workers can receive their benefits. Workers from other nations that have the treaty currently are receiving their social security benefits.

I hope I got it right.

It really isn't a give away. It's granting legal Mexican workers the right to collect their social security benefits because they have paid into the system. Other countries have the right... that's all.

Sorry about all your economic misfortunes. I know its tough...

I wonder if the people receiving benefits have paid anything into the system.

I guess that would make it OK? If so, lets include any other people in the world who are dumb enough to get on the wagon.

If not, this is nothing more than welfare.

Kinda like all foreign aid?

I'm guessing you don't advocate expanding the program to include aliens.

They shouldn't collect, they shouldn't pay. They aren't citizens.
