Someone should explain to these bozos its melting because there is a volcano under the ice.

Yeah, and the Ice Melting on Kilimanjaro is from the Hole in the Ozone layer that is now shrinking. These voodoo environmentalists really need to do their homework, or get a real science degree that uses FACTS!

An Antarctic ice sheet the size of Texas and Colorado combined is melting and could disappear in 7,000 years, possibly raising worldwide sea levels by 16 feet.

These environmental scientists can't even accurately predict the weather for next week, much less 7000 years into the future.

Thanks for the post and the picture.
It makes the point in the caption that we have had global warming since the ice age, long before the advent of fossil fuels. But don't confuse the environmentalist wackos with facts.

I'm covering myself for such events. I'm making certain my gravesite is at least 17 feet above present water levels.

Actually, this article had nothing to do with voodoo environmentalists and their political agenda.

The scientist clearly stated that this has been going on for 10,000 years as part of a natural cycle, and at the rate it is going humans would gradually adapt to changing conditions over the next 7,000 years of melting.

I'm shocked at what a reasonable article this was, considering it's from the AP.

Instead, he said, the researchers have measured what is apparently a natural cycle of ice buildup and melting that may have been going on periodically for millions of years.

Now how did they let that sentence into the article!

That may be the big news here!

7,000 years, possibly raising worldwide sea levels by 16 feet

During the end of the last Ice Age, sea level worldwide rose quickly [2 weeks or less] at least three times by 20 to 60 feet when glacial dams burst. This is from data collected in the Caribbean.

I am shocked (not really) that Freepers fail to read an article and then comment on it. I thought that I would see comments on how even handed this article is, considering its source.

There may be an upside to this. As a conservative in California, it has been the coast that is hard core liberal. If the coasts are flooded, hmmmm just maybe, California will be conservative again.

"An Antarctic ice sheet the size of Texas and Colorado combined is melting and could disappear in 7,000 years, possibly raising worldwide sea levels by 16 feet."

Heh that reminds me of a conversation I had with some animal rights/global warming types who were trying to convince me cows were bad and we needed to stop rasing them for food because they damage the ozone layer!

It seems that cows fart and thus expel gas (Methane) which is supposed to eat away the ozone. They then told me this will melt the ice caps and eventually New York and L.A. would be under water!

These three then waited for my response thinking they had trapped me with science and logic.

My Response: When I ponder the idea that cows munching grass happily in a field and farting will somehow cause the oceans to rise and cover L.A. and New York is most comforting prospect! In fact it restablishes my faith their is a supreme being and he truly does have a greater plan for us all!

Most definitely!

Never the less.....I'm getting out of Florida and selling this soon to be Gulf of Atlanic/Mexico.

Just what would be the exact date?

9002....9003?

Actually, methane is a "greenhouse" gas, which has nothing to do with ozone depletion (unless I missed some new research somewhere).

And trees give off NO which in conjunction with other gasses cause low level ozone... SMOG... DAMN Trees!

started retreating about 10,000 years ago

Isn't that about when man started using fire?
