[history]
Gov. James E. McGreevey said Monday the Democratic State Committee will reimburse the state $18,200 for 14 private trips he took on state-owned helicopters since January.
The announcement came in the wake of questions raised by Gannett New Jersey Newspapers after an examination of helicopter records obtained through the state's Open Public Records Act.

As long as he doesn't tax toilet paper, ala Florio, he'll be re-elected.

"I think it's significant that he is taking the initiative of being proactive and reimbursing the state for these flights," Davitt said. Doesn't proactive mean BEFORE?

And since when is it the responsibility of a PARTY to pay for personal expenses of a government employee?

Sell the choppers. Sell the King Airs. Enjoy those glorious commutes like the rest of your serfs.
If the state owns it, they will use it.

And since when is it the responsibility of a PARTY to pay for personal expenses of a government employee? This is a question that well might be asked by the IRS. If these were party functions, then the party would be responsible for his transportation to and from. If they were not party functions, then they must have been personal travel.
And it is clear that, receiving valuable compensation for personal expenses is accrued as personal income, for tax purposes.
I don't believe that the "executive privilege" claims would be sufficient for the IRS. Unless, of course, he was willing to accept their finding that the $1200/hour cost was "income".

"This is one mistake after another," said Republican Senate President John Bennett, R-Monmouth. "This isn't the time where we should be abusing any taxpayers dollars. Ummm, okay, when is the right time to abuse taxpayer dollars?

McG's strong point is not the english language. Heard him on WABC radio interview using an incorrect word about six times. But then this IS the state of the soprano's. Honor, integrity, and the english language not necessary.

Similar shenanigans cost John Sununu dearly and an aide of Clinton's as well (can't recall name, he used helicopter to take him golfing).
But the people of NJ won't blink an eye.

Since McSleazy is using the state Dem party for his own personal piggy bank, maybe all those dim donors should just cut out the middle men and send the checks straight to McSleazy.

Did the demonrats ever reimburse NJ for the ballot costs associated with the Torche's ( who should be in PRISON!) senate dropout?
To: Sub-Driver
What's going on with the NJ press. First they snuffed the Torch, then they practically outed McGreevey and his Israeli boy toy, then the Ireland trip, and now this. It's almost like they are being impartial.

This is penny ante stuff.......watch how they remain silent when the corruption flows from the building of the arena.
The real reason Schundler couldn't get elected was because he was AGAINST the arena.

some of these dates need to remain categorized as non-public, they are nevertheless related to the governor's official responsibilities." A person has to stand back and admire that statement!
To: OldFriend
You know, Ed Rendell got elected in PA despite having social positions out of touch with the rest of the state.
If Schundler had the money that Rendell raised, and carefully runs his campaign like Rendell did, then I think he can beat McGreevey next time.
Just say he wants to make abortions as rare as possible and crack down on gun offenders. If McGreevey calls him a liar, then the game is over because McGreevey could be annihilated on that charge.

Answer is yes, the dem party did it for 800K..........seems they are McGreedy's personal piggy bank
