Mcleantown - "I thought I was seeing faces when I saw this 'kaalgat' person on the gravel road but I realised when I got closer that this was a real man and that he was scared to death. I've never seen someone this frightened."
This was the observation of Fanie Hein, a farmer, when he came across a man who was not only robbed of his bakkie but also of his clothes, shoes, glasses, money and cellphone.
The victim, Harry Bezuidenhout (40) of Stutterheim, was covered with bruises and scratches. He had walked more than three kilometres without any shoes when Hein came across him.
According to Hein, Bezuidenhout was very frightened and he shivered extremely. He then took Bezuidenhout home to get him some clothing before they went to the police.
Police spokesperson capt. Michelle Matroos said that Bezuidenhout's was robbed of his bakkie in the Wilsionia industrial area.
Apparently a minibus pulled in front of him which forced Bezuidenhout to stop. At first he tried to reverse but two men jumped out of the minibus and aimed a gun at him.
They took his keys and shoved him in the minibus and then one of the robbers drove of with his bakkie. Later on Bezuidenhout was forced to strip stark naked and at some point they threw him out of the car.
