After desolving the engineers Union, Jordan bans anti- normalization trade unions committee

The Jordanian divan ( court) in charge of explaining the Jordanian laws has decided to ban committees promoting anti-normalization with Israeli launched by vocational trade unions in Jordan. A matter which avails the government to desolve these committees.
The Jordanian press said yesterday that the Jordanian Prime Minister Ali Abul Ragheb received heads of vocational trade unions and called on them to abide by the decision of the "Divan." He said that practicing any political activity of that sort and through the vocational trade union is considered law breaking.
Abul Ragheb explained that the decision which views the anti- normalization trade unions committee as illegal has been enforced and it is no longer possible to carry on such practices under any pretext.
He stressed that the government will not force anyone to normalize relations with Israel, rather it will not prevent anyone who wants to deal with another country "we have bilateral relations with or treaties." The issuance of this decision coincided with the release, with a guarantee, of the secretary general of the engineers trade unions Ali Abu Sukkar and two other union's members who were arrested at the beginning of this month after they were accused of being members in an "illegal society," in remarks to the anti- Israeli normalization committee.
This decision comes just one day after desolving the engineers trade union council and all related committees and departments including the anti- Israeli normalization committee.
Worthy mentioning that the new decision states not to permit the trade union's council to form any committee to practice any political activity.
Most of the Jordanian trade union organizations and opposition parties call for severing relations with Israel; relations which were established since the signing of the Wadi Araba agreement with Israel in 1994.
If my conclusion is correct, then in the hostile climate of the Mideast, and its large Palestinian population, this is seems to be a significant step for the gov't of Jordan (the only country that Israel did not have to give land for peace) to take when it would have been "easier" to do nothing.
Jordan: dissolving the Engineers trade Unions

The supreme court of justice in Jordan issued a decision for desolving the engineers trade union council on the ground of a complaint submitted by members in the Union against the legitimacy of the elections which took place in April.
The lawyer of the engineers who filed the case, Imad Sharqawi, said that this decision means desolving the trade union's council and all affiliated committees, including the anti- Israeli normalization committee. The Jordanian government wanted to desolve it in October for being considered "illegal" for opposing the peace agreement signed between Jordan and Israel and over carrying out activities against normalization with Israel.
The complaint was also built on that -- the elections were held according to a new law which has not been adopted yet.
Within this context, the Jordanian state security court released three engineers who were detained for 50 days on charges of being members in an Israeli anti- normalization committee that belongs to the engineers trade union's council which is considered by the government as illegal.
Among the released persons are the secretary general of the engineers trade union Ali Abu Sukkar and other two members in the trade unions: Maysara Malas and Badi al-Rafa'ea who were accused of forming an "illegal society."
