Are you a Star Trek Fan??? Ok, think of the Borg now. There center of life is a big black cube. Their purpose is to take other races of people and convert them to Borg. They convert people to Borgs or they are killed. The Borg will do whatever it takes to convert people and will go to the ends of the universe to promote their ideals. Remember, "Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated." Now think of the Islamist. What do we hear from the radical Islamist? Convert or you will be killed. The black cube in Mecca with the meteorite that the Islamist pray to looks a whole lot like the Borgs ship, huh?. They have never been satisfied with the number of Islamic countries they have now and have been trying to expand their boundaries. The comparisons could last forever. Do you think the creators of Star Trek used radical Islamist as their model for the Borg???

Whoa, you may be on to something here.

Nice! How oddly true.

I tend to think that the Borg is a kind of caricature of the New Man that Statists of the past two centuries have been trying to create.

Gene Roddenberry was a confirmed atheist.
Sounds plausible to me.

I'd be real careful with that analogy.. the borg and the federation are the same basic thing. assimilate to the federation, wear their spiffy uniforms, or be declared an enemy and die.

I don't buy it. The Borg are better at thinking independently.

Oh, sure. Take the radical Klingon viewpoint.
The Federation is a voluntary organization, and they have always been decent about how they did things.
Not that I'm a geek or anything.

Spoken like a true moderate! Moral equivalence, even in SciFi! Note: the Borg did not have a "Prime Directive."
To: SubMareener
prime directive or not, they still kill scads of non-federation lifeforms without bating an eye.

"Fight against such as those to whom the Scriptures were given [Jews and Christians]...until they pay tribute out of hand and are utterly subdued." (Surah 9:27-)

The Borg was a superior race to the Federation--Islamic culture is far inferior to our Western culture.
The Borg say "Resistance is futile..." Islam may feel that way too, but we can (and should, but don't) kick their asses from Mecca to Minnesota.
They are NOT an all-powerful and superior force. They only reason they (and their allies) will defeat us is because we allowed them to. That never happens on Star Trek.
To: Sabertooth
But the Borg never think independently, with the exception of Hue. Remember the collective? Hold on, you made a funny, huh?

I always thought the Ferengi were based on the Arabs and their swindling merchant fame. Not just that, but did you ever notice how the Ferengi are always chasing after the unarmed and lightly armed ships. When faced with even odds, they start whining and groveling. They also treat their females like property (not allowing them to wear clothes or speak in public).
Ugh, I'm such a geek.

Islam sucks immeasurably worse, because they'd put Seven of Nine in a burka.

'They also treat their females like property (not allowing them to wear clothes or speak in public).'

Guess I'm geeky, too.
I always thought that the idea for not allowing their women to wear clothes came from taking a deliberate opposite to the 'make your women cover head to toe' bunch.
