Talent could join Senate as early as this week

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Republican Jim Talent could become the newest member of the U.S. Senate as early as this week, when Missouri Secretary of State Matt Blunt is scheduled to certify the Nov. 5 election results.

Blunt, whose father is U.S. Rep. Roy Blunt of Missouri and the new House majority whip, is scheduled to certify the results at 1 p.m. Thursday in his state Capitol office.

Mrs. Carnahan gave a farewell speech Monday on the Senate floor, reflecting on her time in the Senate and the circumstances that brought her there.

Anyways, I doubt they'll make the switch, especially McCain, and especially in light of the election results.

I think the story is nonsense.....McCain's identity is as a maverick GOP and Chafee has already ruled it out.

Macain will never jump to the Democrats, it will finish him.

Chaffee has long stated that he will not either.

Besides, even if they do, the Senate would still be in control of the GOP so what good would it do?
