Iraq's Weapons of Mass Destruction Programs

Iraq has continued its weapons of mass destruction (WMD) programs in defiance of UN resolutions and restrictions.  Baghdad has chemical and biological weapons as well as missiles with ranges in excess of UN restrictions; if left unchecked, it probably will have a nuclear weapon during this decade.

Baghdad hides large portions of Iraq's WMD efforts.  Revelations after the Gulf war starkly demonstrate the extensive efforts undertaken by Iraq to deny information.

Since inspections ended in 1998, Iraq has maintained its chemical weapons effort, energized its missile program, and invested more heavily in biological weapons; most analysts assess Iraq is reconstituting its nuclear weapons program.

How quickly Iraq will obtain its first nuclear weapon depends on when it acquires sufficient weapons-grade fissile material.

This is an UNCLASSIFIED version I found on the CIA webpage. I wonder what the CLASSIFIED version contains??

But, a couple of points:
If Baghdad acquires sufficient weapons-grade fissile material from abroad, it could make a nuclear weapon within a year.
I've seen other articles stating how fervently Saddam is trying to get a hold of weapons-grade uranium.

Look at all the other resolutions that have been passed, and largely un-enforced. I don't think the new one will be any different.

Let's go take 'em out!

Ummm, I hate to tell you this, but Iraq has clearly stated that they do not have WMD programs. Are you suggesting that they are lying? < /sarcasm >

It'll take about another 3-4 weeks for the UN weapons inspectors to get jacked around Baath Party-style, IMO, and then we will have no choice, and you'll hear the FB-111s, B-2s, cruise missiles, JDAMS have all been activated for one hell of a night. Before that of course we will be blowing the crap out of Scud farms out west in joint teams with the Star of David boys.

Now's the time to sign up for that $45 monthly satellite channel addition of alJazeera and Dubai TV and order those big tins of buttered popcorn with Christmas designs on them at the entry of Walmart.

This is obviously not true Iraq has come out and told us they don't have or gotten rid of any WMD they've had.

And Iraq wouldn't LIE to us. Would they?

If i was saddam, which im not, heres what i would do. I would let the inspectors go wherever they want, and as soon as they enter a "restricted site" i would take them hostage. I would then place a member of the team on the site of one of the chem/bio weapons plants and say that any attempt to destroy the plant will in turn kill a UN inspector. Knowing how much the UN is like the LON, they will probably allow saddam to do whatever he pleases, and if the US attacks, we will look like the bad guys for killing Hans Blix.

Excellent links and info.
All this effort with the UN is meaningless.
Sure, it buys time for Iraq.
But, I believe, that it is buying time for Bush...

That is the most important reason for the UN activity.
