Voters Support Education and Programs for Children
California voted in favor of education and child's programs, supporting propositions that will upgrade the state's schools and provide after-school activities.
Voters passed Proposition 47, a record $13 billion bond issue to build new classrooms and renovate old ones. The money funds improvements to kindergarten through grade 12 public schools, community colleges and state universities.
Californians also voted in favor of Proposition 49, a measure requiring the state to increase funding for after-school programs such as tutoring. That measure comes with a $455 million price tag.
Other initiatives geting the nod from California voters include Proposition 46, which authorizes $2.1 billion in bonds for housing and emergency shelter needs, and Proposition 50, a $3.4 billion bond for state water projects.
Voters said no to Proposition 51, which would have diverted 30 percent of revenue from motor vehicle sales and leases to transportation projects. They also rejected Proposition 52, which would have allowed same-day voter registration.
