They really stepped in doo-doo with this one. We've got to hit this hard on the Free Republic, because the lamestream media WON'T report on this unless we rub their noses in it - and maybe not even then.

Since this election is so close, I assume there'll be a mandatory recount, correct? (Don't know for sure since "sparsely populated" means that 500 votes means more than it does in a densely populated state).

And since the FBI is already supposed to be investigating the Indian Reservation mess, could it be that this will be the time we catch the Dems red-handed at what they have been attempting to do to subvert the democratic process for years now?

Agreed. South Dakota ain't Baltimore, and I doubt that the South Dakota Dems have got a Stephen Montanarelli¹ in the bullpen to pull this one out for them.

I'm not sure if you're right. Sure, squaw is the latest entry on the PC list of forbidden words. But what do real Indians as opposed to political Native Americans think about it? I don't honestly know.

According to a little piece I read by Tony Hillerman, a group of Navajo chiefs and other SW Indian elders got together some years ago to decide if they preferred to be called Indians or Native Americans. They don't think of themselves as Indians, anyway. They think of themselves as "the people," as Navajo, Hopi, Arapaho, or whatever.

The universal consensus at the time is that Indian was the name other people called them collectively and it would be foolish to change it. One chief is said to have remarked: "It's a good thing Columbus thought he discovered India, not Turkey." I've heard both sides on the word squaw. My inclination is not to trust the language police until they've proven their case, or the people being labeled definitively reject the word. I don't think that's happened yet. I'm suspicious that it took so many years for Indians to notice.

I asked this on another thread, but I thought Indians were their own nations, exempt from taxes and some laws, etc., so how in the heck do they get to vote in US elections? Either they are citizens or they aren't. How can they not pay taxes and yet still get to vote, or is that only some tribes? I'm confused.

All I know for sure is that about 8 pm last night, Ron Kirk resigned as Democrat candidate for Texas senate.

Tom Daschle announced that he will be replaced on the ballot by LBJ and because he's dead (voted twice in this election) his widow, Lady Bird, will serve in his place.

Its safe to say the democrats "have" cheated in S.D., if you believe their get-out-the-vote employee who admitted forging signatures and burning ballots. Whether this will be treated as a crime or not is not clear. Remember, Bush didn't pursue the Rich Pardon, so, since they now control the Senate, I wouldn't be surprised if they sweep this under the rug, so as to not make waves or look mean (aka spinelessness). If there is real evidence, and I believe there is, then it should be pursued. To sweep this away as has been done so many times in the past (as a matter of routine), because of spinelessness (a.k.a. Trent Lott) or fear of letting Americans know for sure that our election system isn't perfect will ensure future elections crime.

I don't know - I hate to see our side perpetuate the "don't win, take it to court" mindset. The more frequently it happens, the more it will continue to happen. The courts still tend to be stacked with libs, so in the long run that strategy could hurt us.

They don't pay taxes but have a big gambling casino, hotels, gas stations, etc. and drive out other businesses who can't compete with them. Pataki did nothing about it. Now another Oneida tribe from Wisconsin, I think, has put a claim on several large businesses here. It's insane. I had to buy insurance for my house that guarantees me the price I paid for it in case they throw me off my land. Well, warrior princess isn't going without a fight. I don't know that it would ever come to that but they'll never get our place witout one big fight. We worked too hard to finally be able to buy one.
