ELECTION 2002 McBride fails to gain on Bush
By Mark Silva | Sentinel Political Editor
Posted October 27, 2002
TALLAHASSEE -- Gov. Jeb Bush holds a firm command of the governor's race....
The poll reveals strong signs that more voters have confidence in Bush's ability to lead ...
"...McBride's momentum has stopped," said Jim Kane, the Sentinel's pollster.
...Asked about leading issues overall -- from education to the economy -- more have faith in Bush's ability to handle them.
...Bush has managed to remain competitive among female voters while enjoying the continuing support of male voters....
A separate poll of 800 voters, expected to be published today by the St. Petersburg Times and The Miami Herald, shows a 51 percent to 43 percent advantage for Bush. That survey holds a narrower margin of error, 3 percentage points.
Debates have played a significant role in this year's race....
Among independent voters ...-- 47 percent said Bush prevailed and 21 percent said McBride did.
...."Unless something changes, I don't think this is going to be as close as we previously thought." [said Jim Kane, the Sentinel's pollster.]
John Kennedy and Bob Mahlburg of the Sentinel staff contributed to this report. Mark Silva can be reached at msilva@orlandosentinel.com or 407-420-5034.

RE the article's news about two new polls:
(1) Poll #1 -- Bush is favored among 49 percent of likely voters surveyed, while McBride holds 43 percent in the poll, conducted for the Orlando Sentinel and South Florida Sun-Sentinel...Bush's sustained advantage over McBride since earlier polls remains strong in every region but South Florida, according to the survey, of 600 likely voters interviewed by telephone Tuesday through Friday.
Overall results of the poll, conducted by Florida Voter of Fort Lauderdale, carry a possible margin of error of 4 percentage points....
(2) Poll #2 -- ...A separate poll of 800 voters, expected to be published today by the St. Petersburg Times and The Miami Herald, shows a 51 percent to 43 percent advantage for Bush. That survey holds a narrower margin of error, 3 percentage points.

MOMENTUM BUSH! Don't stop, keep going!

As people know, Terry McAuliffe announced this past week that McBride was going to beat Jeb, and that doing so was McAuliffe's and the DNC's #1 priority, in order to embarrass President Bush.
Won't it be great to see that crooked, and I do mean crooked, smile wiped off McAuliffe's face?

Love seeing the union's money being pissed away in a losing race based on a personal vendetta.
Better put some ice on that Bill...(Clinton)

Re your post #3 - No, it is a different topic - the St. Pete thread concerns the St Pete/Miami Poll, and this thread mentions two polls.

After watching the debates, how could Bush not be winning? Except for those idiots in South Florida who are voting for the Yellow Dog?

Re your post #11 - I also thought it interesting that these polls are finding many voters DID watch at least one of the debates (and, of course, FL voters say Gov Bush won). McMumble's people never succeeded in framing this race solely as some kind of personality contest; instead, the voters wanted facts and specifics, and McMumble really never had any to offer - so, he lost every debate.

One of the Dem sites posted a recent letter from the DNC, signed by Bill Clinton, to Dem voters, wherein CLinton said Dem financial resources are "spread perilously thin" in this election season. I guess he can thank McMumble for that!

Terry McAuliffe's comments have been so off-base in this FL gov race, as have the comments of many Dem activists. They thought they would whip a lot of anger over "One FL" for instance, but editorials are mentioning One FL zas one of the good things Gov Bush did.

This is good news. Now I wonder what kind of snotty ads the mcbribe camp will run?
McMumble is currently running two contrasting ads right now, one that seems to say "Hey, since Jeb said nice things about McMumble, vote for McMumble!" and another one that says "Look at the 'devious' thing Jeb said; vote for ___ 9someone else" (never mentioning McMumble's name.). They are still trying to make it a contest of personalities, while Gov Bush's ad about the looming threat of more taxes under McMumble is the ad having an impact, according to these polls. FL voters are more interested in their pocketbooks and the facts - not personalities.
