Maryland Prosecutor Confident Sniper Attacks Over

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The local prosecutor in Montgomery County, center of the Washington-area sniper case, said on Thursday he believed the detention of two suspects, one an army veteran, meant the shooter was no longer at large.

"There's a strong feeling these people are related to the sniper shootings," Douglas Gansler, state's attorney in Maryland's Montgomery County, where the sniper task force is based, told WTOP radio.

Asked if he believed the sniper was still at large, he said, "No."

Police arrested the man and a teen-ager at a highway rest stop in rural Maryland, in the first big break in a hunt for culprits in the sniper slayings of 10 people and the wounding of three others.

However, police refrained from saying whether the pair would be charged with carrying out the deadly attacks.

I wish this guy hadn't said this. I still have a sinking feeling that there is more to come.

I think this is smart. The sniper has shown a tendency to react to media reports. When the media said school children were safe, the sniper immediately shot a child going to school.

Now, if the sniper is at large, he will react within 24 hours. If there is no attack, he's not at large. QED.

It's as close as we can come to proving a negative under the circumstances.

"an army veteren"

Yes, they did not say "a supporter of Louis Farrakhan," which would probably be more relevant.

"It ain't over 'til it's over".

We have not heard the last of this story. I hope the prosecutor is trying to flush out the enemy and that law enforcement doesn't really believe everything is completed.

Have we not learned anything? Even if these guys are who we're looking for, and even if they did work alone, all a statement like this does is inspire a copycat.

Would have been good journalism if they had mentioned the probably more pertinent fact that he is a participant in the Religion of PeaceTM

Ex-wife's attorney on FoxNews:

She didn't know anything, or suspect her ex-husband of anything. A shock to the family. Cooperating with law enforcement. Divorced over 10 years ago. Very occasional contact.

"No further information, just that "less than honorable discharge."

IIRC, below "honorable" is "general" and "dishonorable." A General Discharge is, for all intents and purposes, just as dishonorable as the Dishonorable one.
