Sniper attacks not yet leading to hunting restrictions in Virginia

(Richmond-AP) -- A spokesman says Governor Mark Warner has not received any requests from local governments in Virginia to limit the hunting season because of the sniper attacks.

Kevin Hall, a spokesman for Warner, says the governor would consider limiting the recreational use of firearms if local officials were to ask.

Maryland Governor Parris Glendenning has imposed a ban on discharging firearms recreationally in four counties there.

Law-enforcement officials in Maryland said the restrictions would help limit public reports of gunshots, which could distract police as they hunt for the sniper.

An official with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries says some Virginia hunters have heard about the Maryland restrictions and thought Virginia they applied in Virginia. So far, they don't.

I don't live in Virginia, but I'm curious. Does anyone who lives ther know what the authority (other than martial law statutes, of course) the governor would have to ban the discharge of firearms for recreational purposes? I'm assuming it would be something like the fire emergency we had in Colordo this past summer, but it seems that the justification would have to be entirely different.

The DC Islamist sniper team is not likely to show up anywhere where someone might be able to shoot back.

They should outlaw human hunting.

That'd throw a huge monkey wrench in this sniper fellow's plans.

Actually, they have struck twice down in the Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania area, a rather conservative area with a healthy number of gun owners.

That's the thing about Muslim assassination teams, they'll never put themselves in a position where they must actually fight armed men. They prefer slitting the throats of women and children, or shooting elderly retirees in the head. All in the name of the noble Allah, of course.

Sadly, it's only a matter of time before this actually happens.

Guess I'm just not as indoctrinated into leftist "thinking" as the media would like us all to be, but when I read the headline, the first thought that popped into my head was, "And why the hell should it?"

Great, thanks fellow Virginians, for electing Mark Warner to the Governorship. Don't look at me -- I did not vote for him, and I did vote.

"And why the hell should it?"

Well, this puts the lie to a few theories I saw floated as an excuse for the Maryland ban: a) it was necessary to allow the military surveillance plane to detect a "muzzle flash," and b) the poor, overworked, and apparently clueless MD police were running themselves ragged responding to reports of gunshots, by hunters.

For some reason, Virginia doesn't (yet) have similar problems. (sarcasm/off)

BTW, the media reported hysterically last week that one of those hunter gunshot incidents was the result of a car window being blown out by hunter buckshot. I just read that the driver broke the window himself, and is being prosecuted for making a false report.
