Dick Morris: Browning of America Dooms GOP

Increasing numbers of black and Hispanic voters will doom the GOP's chances to for electoral success by 2008.

That's the assessment; not from conservative immigration opponent Pat Buchanan, but instead from America's preeminent political strategist, Dick Morris.

"The Hispanic and black population increase, particularly the Hispanic population, has made New Jersey and New York and California and is making Florida into solidly Democratic states," Morris told nationally syndicated radio host Sean Hannity on Tuesday.

"Four years from now - and eight years from now - the Republican Party will be fighting for its life because of this," he warned.

Morris noted that in the 1988 presidential election, then-Vice President George Bush defeated Democrat Gov. Michael Dukakis in New Jersey's Bergen County by 15 points. Just twelve years later, he noted, then-Vice President Al Gore beat Bush's son by 15 points in the same county.

"It's flipped 30 points between 1988 and 2000," said Morris. "That is what the Republican Party is facing all over the place."

The one-time Clinton political guru predicted that Bush's home state of Texas would be the next big state to swing Democrat.

Morris' advice to the GOP?

"Nominate Colin Powell for president," he told Hannity, explaining that such a move would finally shatter the illusion that the GOP doesn't care about minorities. "That's the magnitude of the gesture that will be necessary to make this work."

"That's the race in '08," he added. "Powell against Hillary."

I agree somewhat with Dick. I am a Hispanic who put my absentee ballot in the mail a few hours ago and voted for Jeb Bush and for "R"s all the way down, but I am an exception to the rule, I'm a Cuban-American. Barring a disaster, Bush will get re-elected in '04 and I believe that in order for us to win the White House again in '08 we have to run a minority (Rice, Powell) or a Moderate (Guiliani) in order to beat Hillary.

The best thing we all can do is IGNORE Dick Morris. This bafoon is a Clinton Flunky who unable to see past the politics of an issue. When we are dealing with life and death situations concerning our National Security, The last thing we need is to be listening to a partisen hack like Dick Morris who at best is a "Fair Weather Friend"

Dick Morris is a sub-standard political hack, who is completely vacant of any honor and dignity, and should be regarded as such

This all depends in getting Hispanics into the middle class where they tend to vote more conservatively. After all, they know from what they came from and like we see from Cubans don't want that again. If they're still non-english speaking migrants then they'll vote for the support checks plain and simple. In NJ it's more heavily PR and that section has been decisely less successful than browns as a whole. Seems to me that if they can be afforded the American dream...house, car, job etc then they'll be far more inclined to vote for more of that.

I would agree with your assessment of Dick Morris had this been 2-4 years ago (or anytime thru the Clinton years) but not now.

I really believe he is a new man. Sean Hannity has "Hannitized" him. LOL. He is a very smart man and we would be wrong not to listen to him and his ideas.

I enjoy him on Hannity & Colmes and he recently admitted to NOT being a DemocRAT anymore but now is an Independent. I personally believe he is now a Republican. I love him.

Doom and gloom, gloom and doom... let's wring our hands and act like Democrats: mortgage the future to buy votes in the present, pander on ethnicity, and offer yet another Amnesty.

Whatever we do, we dare not make our case, someone might say mean things to us.

The only solution is more of the problem.

If the Republicans keep playing the wedge issue race baiting game, they will be in trouble. If they get back to family values, smaller government, better education for everyone, helping the common citizen get the government off his back and become all that he can be, they'll continue to kick the Democrat's asses in perpetuity. Why? Because these issues appeal to all races. And when they win, Democrats have to out "Republic" us. And I'll be darned if that isn't better than them trying to out-Socialize us.

Where we lose, is the place that sees us trying to out-promise goodies to special interest groups. That's a losing game forever unless our goal is become better big-government hacks than the Democrats.

The Republicans must remind folks that trillions of dollars later, welfare hasn't destroyed poverty. Millions of illegals later, our SBA and financial woes haven't disappeared. Special interest promises to miniority groups, and we barely attain a majority of their votes.

Out-Democrating and out-Socializing the opposition is never going to return us to the Republic we should be.

That sure is turning out to be a tough concept these days though.

I don't believe you run a minority just to get votes, that's affirmative action and it's racist. You run your best guy, regardless of color.

Especially with George Bush and his side kick Karl Rove.

"lol....Here we go all. All Hispanics are illegals right?.. "

My statement had nothing to do with "Hispanics or Illegals". Are you sure you're addressing the right poster?

What makes you say that J.C. Watts is walking away forever? He already said that he wants to run for another office.

The best thing we all can do is IGNORE Dick Morris.

You can ignore him, but I choose to listen to him. He is in a career field where ideological purity isn't necessary. He gets paid to give candidates advice about how to win.

That is what he did, for Clinton. That is what he is doing in this article.

He isn't the first analyst to make the same point. The message is valid, even if you don't like the messenger.

The only problem with Morri's anlysis is that he believes that Hispanics and Blacks are pre-disposed genetically to a political ideology. Ideology is determined by class, education and experience, not by race and ethnicity.

Friend, Maybe you mean well, but you're saying - in other words - that we have to compromise our principles to prevent the Commie-Dems from taking over. In other words, we need to support somebody who is, for example, for killing the unborn babies. I'd rather be able to look in the mirror, rather, indeed, have a clear conscience about it before God. I will never knowingly vote for a "moderate;" moderate - which almost always means somebody who condones the slaughter of the unborn. I don't think God will honor this country as long as we empower people who condone the murder of those made in His very image.
No thanks to Powell, Giuliani, etc.
