Statement by the President

Terrorists have once again targeted innocents this time in Indonesia. At least 182 innocent men and women have been murdered and hundreds injured in a cowardly act designed to create terror and chaos.

On behalf of the people of the United States, I condemn this heinous act. I offer our heartfelt condolences to the families of all the murder victims from numerous countries and our wish for the swift and complete recovery of those injured in this attack.

I offer our sympathy to our friends, the people of Indonesia, for this terrible tragedy. Our prayers are also with our friends and allies, the people of Australia, who are suffering a grievous personal and national loss.

The world must confront this global menace terrorism. We must together challenge and defeat the idea that the wanton killing of innocents advances any cause or supports any aspirations. And, we must call this despicable act by its rightful name murder.

The United States has offered its assistance to the government of Indonesia to help bring these murderers to justice.

I was reading Ronald Reagan's book, and he talks about the mideast. He actually had harsh words about Begin and Sharon as well as the PLO, the Syrians, and Hamas, not to mention Iraq, Iran, and Lybia. I was thinking about it later, and thinking about the whole "don't negotiate with terrorists" concept, and it occurred to me that this war on terror is correct(yeah, I know, I'm slow, but I'm trying to think it through.)

Let's say the Palestinians should have a homeland. OK. But they MUST cease terrorism first. They must renounce terror FIRST. We simply cannot give in to terrorism. This is the moral stand we must take. If we can win this war, and get the other industrial nations of the world to agree, it could represent a great step forward for mankind. Or maybe I am crazy. But it almost makes you wonder why it took 9-11 for us to take this stand.

There are millions of good Indonesians - Christians, Buddhists, Animists, Chinese, Indians, etc. Probably even some secular moslems. All of whom are victimized by the fanatic moslems there. We don't need to go to war with Indonesia, only the radical Islamic elements there. When we do, millions of Indonesians will help us in this goal.

I've been the Bali many times & have many friends there. The Hindus are very gentle persons. However the same can not be said for the ilamists that are there. It is a shame that violence has come to that particular part of Indonesia (Bali, that is.). It makes me sad & very angry.

Perhaps I can help. The leftists in America, including the Clintons (all Democrats for that matter) and the media, do all they can to prevent the USA from doing what is in its best interest. All of the good Indonesians are going to suffer greatly because the Powers That Be ignored the festering sore of radical Islamic terrorists (I believe the Indonesian VP is cuddly with some of the radical Islamics behind this terrorism). Tourism is the mainstay of their economy and it is going to shrivel to nothing after this heinous act.
