An Internet site invites college students to cite the names of Middle Eastern studies professors who criticize Israel or in their view offer "biased" views or make "biased" classroom remarks about the Middle East, Islam and foreign policy issues.

The Web site

"Muslim-American groups and the American Civil Liberties Union say the Campus Watch site is an assault on academic freedom and amounts to a blacklist of professors and threatens to suppress discussions about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict."

I don't understand what the problem is here. Why should the professors fear that their comments to students will be disseminated to others.

The ACLU keeps its own blacklists - freakin liberal hypocrites. Sorry for the redundancy there.

"Free speech for me, but not for thee" is the ruling attitude of the opinion-elite of our time. The notion that "academic freedom" is a license to do whatever one wishes without consequence or criticism seems curiously well matched to it.

Muslims, of course, are incandescent about any sort of criticism of their beliefs, their activities, or the felonies committed in the name of their "religion." They routinely go ballistic when it's pointed out to them that all terrorism being committed in the world these past thirty years has been by Muslims and in keeping with the teachings of Islam and the Qur'an. (See Islam Unveiled and Bikinis And Burqas? for a bit more on these lines.) That sort of hypersensitivity to criticism is a red flag to anyone with even a modicum of experience in living, let alone in political exchange.

This sort of thing made Nat Hentoff leave the Democratic Party. In a way, it's heartening. Most people are still sensible enough to draw the appropriate conclusions when they see it.

I'm disappointed that only Middle-Eastern professors are expected to be commented upon.

Professors of all ethnic backgrounds similarly brain-wash their students regularly with Leftist drivel...and as a student you must agree or receive a poor grade in the course.

Let me get this straight... should the little mush-minds take notes in class or just wing-it from memory. The professors sound a little touchy.... too bad.

The other group of lefties that need watching are those in the Econ dept.... bunch of socialist nitwits.

Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League, says the targeting of Jewish students for violence or intimidation on college campuses is a problem, but the best way to deal with such acts is to reach out to campuses and professors individually, not list them online. "I wouldn't have done it," Mr. Foxman says. "Such a list could tarnish reputations of good people."

Foxman hates his own people! If he was in Germany in 1939, he would have said that “Krystalnacht” was just some kids out “wilding”.

The guy is garbage!

"What we're concerned with is this climate of turning people in," says Rachel King, a legislative counsel for the ACLU. "People shouldn't be keeping lists or monitoring people's behavior."

What a riot. When the ACLU gets after Morris Dees and the Southern Poverty Law Center for doing just that, they can then make this statement with a straight face. There are no threats on the website, it is therefore protected speech under the First Amendment, but the ACLU is opposed? Time to change your name, dudes, to the ALCLU - American LIBERAL Civil Liberties Union.

Your cited paragraph needs a re-write:

"Muslim-American groups and the American Civil Liberties Union say the Campus Watch site is an assault on academic freedom and amounts to a blacklist of professors and threatens to suppress discussions about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. reveal to parents and the greater public the kind of crap being spewed in taxpayer-supported college lectures."

I agree would be nice to see similar lists with the likes of Baraka's on them who are teaching "afro-centric" or "women's" studies. I think parents have an absolute right to know what is being taught to their kids and professors should be accountable to the parents and taxpayers who fund them. I see no problem here. These twits just don't want to be exposed for what they are. Anyone see any inconsistencies too with black listing some of the more way right CHRISTIAN schools or professors(as has gone on for years) and the uproar about daring to do this to MUSLIM professors. Very scary stuff imo that the leftists support MUSLIM, an absolute black hole where freedom is concerned. Scary because they've been so successful brainwashing the nation so far on other issues. I think Islam should be held up to the same kind of scrutiny that some in this country hold up Christianity too. Then we'll talk about equity and "academic freedom".

Anybody wanting to start a list of professors of other types can start his own web page. Creating a web site is cheap these days. These guys are using their First Amendment rights to protest a specific ideology, and choose not to dilute their site.

Might be they see a hand near a light switch!
