If they win, the democrats appeal to the USSC. The case will go there either way.

It's not just Republicans that should be concerned, there are other candidates on the ballot too.

In addition to Torricelli, the Democrat, and Forrester the Republican, Ted Glick is running from the Green Party, Elizabeth Macron is running from the Libertarians, Gregory Pason is running from the Socialist Party and Norman Wahner is running for the Conservatives.

GO GREEN!

I personally think the ballot should stay the way it is. What Federal issue is inloved? The Feds should stay out of this.

I think this is the same strategy as Floriduh 2000. Parallel legal action. If NJSC rules in their favor, I believe that would nullify the federal action (depending on what they ruled). They could then withdraw the USSC petition if necessary.

I think this was fixed from the very beginning, and they know it. I don't think Torch would have ever been pressured to resign unless the Dems knew which way the court would rule in the first place.

According to my sources . . .

If they lost the case in the NJ Supreme Court, Torricelli is going to resign and McGreevey is going to name Lautenberg as his replacement. McGreevey is then going to try to schedule a special election to select someone to serve out the remainder of Torricelli's term in office (all 60 days or so). Their hope is that in such a "special election" they will not be required to use Torricelli as the candidate.

The Republicans may have asked the US Supreme Court to get involved simply to issue a ruling that will head off all these potential idiotic moves.

Yes later today. NJSC retired to chambers after legal arguments and is discussing it now.

It would be interesting to know what the Green, Libertarian, Socialist, etc. candidates think about this Torricelli thing.

More to the point, here's my prediction: The dems win this one. If they manage somehow to pull off the scam and win the election, they'll immediately amend the law to prevent anyone (pubbies) from doing it again.

If they lose the case and lose the election, it'll be moot. Except they'll blame thow waskally repubwicans.

The Democrats' argument that voters will not have a "choice" is totally bogus.

I checked the New Jersey State Elections web site, and there are the following choices:

Forrester
A Libertarian
A Green Party dude
A Socialist
A Conservative

That's *five* choices that I count.

The fact that there is not a Democrat among them is irrelevant, or should be, to the State of New Jersey.
