Rep. McDermott a fool? Fleischer responds to Kinsolving question on Baghdad comments
WorldNetDaily.com ^ | Wednesday, October 2, 2002 | By Les Kinsolving

Despite the fact that President Bush travels to Baltimore tomorrow afternoon to speak at a reception for Maryland Republican gubernatorial nominee Rep. Bob Ehrlich, presidential press secretary Ari Fleischer was noncommittal today when WND asked him about a debate attack on Ehrlich by Democratic nominee Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend.

WND: Last week, while she was debating Congressman Bob Ehrlich who, as you know, the president is visiting this month, Maryland's Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend charged that Ehrlich, in her words, "opposes affirmative action based on race. Lynching was based on race. Discrimination is based on race. Jim Crowe was based on race. And affirmative action should be based on race." End of quote. Question: Does the president agree with Mrs. Townsend, or does he believe it's wrong to replace Jim Crowe with Crowe Jim – among other reasons, because the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. pleaded that his children could someday be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin?

FLEISCHER: Les, I have not talked directly to the president about any of the issues that you just presented from the Maryland debate, so I really can't go beyond that.

WND then asked Fleischer about the comments of Rep. James McDermott, D-Wash., in Baghdad over the weekend:

WND: Sen. Torricelli said yesterday, "I've done my duty to my country," even though Mr. Chang, who gave him those illegal gifts, is in prison for doing so, and this year the New Jersey Democrats still nominated Torricelli for re-election to the Senate. Question: The president does not disagree with New Jersey Republicans going to court to keep Torricelli's name on that ballot, nor does the president disagree with George Will's comparison of Congressman McDermott in Baghdad to Adolf Hitler's "Lord Haw Haw," does he? (Laughter.) …

FLEISCHER: I think it was rather remarkable to see a member of the United States Congress travel to Baghdad, Iraq, to say that Saddam Hussein needs to be believed, while the president of the United States will mislead the American people. And I think it just shows it is certainly the good Congressman's right to say anything he wants, no matter how foolish. And he exercised that right.

The Democrat Self-immolation Continues
by JohnHuang2
October 1, 2002

As election season heads for the home stretch, if Democrats wanted domestic issues to be center-stage of election debate, they sure as heck have a wacky way of making it happen.

With polls showing John Q. Public more worried about Saddam Hussein than Martha Stewart, challenging a popular War President on national security, you'd think, would be the last thing Democrats might attempt to do.

Yet, that's exactly what these goofballs are doing.

Take those three pretzel-heads in Baghdad, Congresscritters McDermott, Thompson and Bonior, who on Sunday accused the U.S. Commander-in-chief of saying mean and nasty things about Saddam Hussein, liberal darling golden boy. Bush is making stuff up, they insisted. The cowboy is lying through his teeth, trying to push Saddam, the peace-lover, to war. Bush needs a pretext -- an excuse to kill and maim and mangle and murder, especially cute, little lovable puppies; that's what it's all about. Bush is the warmonger, the real meanie here -- not Saddam, who's a gentleman. In fact, when he's not gassing women and children to death, or invading neighbors, Saddam's a pretty swell dude. Even his doubles are very, very nice men -- McDermott's met every one of 'em!

Besides, Saddam couldn't harm a fly, Iraq's Secret Police assured McDermott; oh, and that all the suffering there is Bush's fault.

As for this silly business of weapons stockpiles, it's all bunk. McDermott toured every Iraqi Puppy Milk Factory, but found no weapons of mass destruction -- not a trace. Oh, that Evil American propaganda!

McDermott did have a scarey moment, however. While in Baghdad, he came across this huge government installation. The gate at the entrance had a sign which read: Elite Republican Guard. 'What the heck are Republicans doing here?', McDermott angrily demanded. When Iraqi officials traveling with him explained, he suggested a more appropriate name: 'Why not call 'em, 'Elite Democratic Guard' instead? Calling them Republicans is a terrible insult to them.'

By the way, who ever said Democrats don't care about national security, anyway? McDermott and Bonior and Thompson prove Democrats care deeply about national security ... Iraq's, that is.

Bottom line: Democrats have tried to hide their weakness on national security by blurring policy differences with Republicans. In blowing kisses to Saddam, McDermott et al have a) blown that cover out of the water and b) vindicated Republicans who know liberals, by and large, don't give a lick about national security.

Anyway, that's...

My two cents...

Take those three pretzel-heads in Baghdad,

I think that Senator Alfonse D'mato had a more descriptive term.

Iraqi Health Minister Omaid Medhat to McDermott (D-Wash, Iraq), Bonior (D-Michigan, Iraq),
and Thompson (D Calif, Iraq):

"Thank you all for being so incredibly stupid and traitors
to your country. Why, here in Iraq we must gang rape entire families, and cut some of the
children into pieces to be fed to dogs before the parents before our people lower themselvers
to the position in which you approached us.
Saddam thanks you. We will send more instructions after you return."

Did King want to be judged for his character while he was humping other women than his wife?
