I'd like to take advantage of them, but can find no guide.

Ping List: Keeping a list of people, for example in a text file, that you put in the TO: portion of a post. When the person checks 'My Comments' section the remark you posted shows up to them. I use ping lists to make people aware of articles I think they may be interested in.

BookMarking: When you click on BookMark in an article it saves a link to it on your profile page. To see your profile page click on you name, you can also click on the names of other people, like me, and see their profile and what they have bookmarked.

Bump and BTTT - Bump a thread to the top of the pool/list. Some people view latest posts versus latest articles. When you Bump a thread it shows up at or near top of the latest posts, hence breathing new life into it and alerting people to it who may not have seen it before.

Bump List: Like the breaking news thing to the side in some ways, people view some threads by checking to see if it appears in the bump list. Example, War on Drugs (WOD list). When you bump an article to a list and someone goes to the bump list and selects WOD they will see the article listed there as well, a form of indexing by article subject.

Also, if your not aware, you can set a lot of preferences for how you see things. Go to your profile page and click preferences for more info (sorry if I am posting things you already know, just trying to cover some basics)

One of my "backburner" projects has been to write a field manual or operators guide to Free Republic- unfortunately, other things keep getting in the way of it... the closest I've come so far is this:

R U new? Some Tips....
