Ethics issues may bring Torricelli's career to end

TRENTON -- Once considered a shrewd and flashy New Jersey politician, U.S. Sen. Robert Torricelli's longtime political career teeters on the brink following continuing revelations about his dealings with David Chang.

A one-time friend and fund-raiser for Torricelli, Chang is jailed for making illegal contributions to the senator's 1996 campaign.

EXCERPT After the Senate ethics committee severely admonished Torricelli, it voted to seal boxes of records related to the case and information obtained during a day-long interview with Torricelli. Critics have called on the senator to ask the committee to release all evidence but Torricelli refused, saying he would abide by the committee's decision to keep documents secret.

If he has nothing to hide, why not release the documents (rhetorical question) ?

All of the details presented in this article begs the question: how much damning evidence is necessary for NJ voters to acknowledge that they are being represented in the Senate by a criminal?

While that may seem to be a rhetorical question, we have to remember: Democrats across the country looked at the mountains of evidence of malfeasance that was racked up during the 8 years of the Clinton-Gore administration and said: "it's just a bunch of Clinton-haters! There's no 'there' there! It's just his personal life! Judge not, lest thee be judged! Character doesn't matter! It all depends on what the definition of 'is' is!" I'm hopeful this will be the end of the Torch, I must admit to having low expectations regarding the voters of NJ.

Chang's involvement with TORCHICELLI is only one part that contributes to the TORCH being referred to as the "Chinese Bagman."

Let us not forget that he was appointed to a leadership position on a Senate Fund Raising Committee on his first day in the U.S. Senate. Bill Bradley was never appointed to a leadership position in his entire career in the Senate!

I have always believed that the Democrats target the left side of the bell-shaped curve for IQ. Evidence is not important when you don't know what to do with it.

And, if the voters of NJ (gulp) re-elect the torch, does that mean the people of NJ want a LYING THIEF as a represntitive?

Hopefully after this cretin is shoved by the voters out of office, the good people of NY will start looking into the slimey senator Clinton who IMHO is far more deeper into unethical dealings than all of the senators combined could ever be.

Ethics issues? A more accurate term would be corruption, plus lying and coverup. We will learn in November whether even in New Jersey there is some degree of corruption which is too much. Needless to say, it will be a matter of complete unconcern to the democrat base which mostly participates in politics as the means to live at the expense of their fellow citizens, and for whom personal character and even criminality is irrelevant and a matter of indifference.

I think you'll find NJ voters are about like voters across the country : overly inclined to judge candidates on the basis of single issues.

Labor will support any candidate-no matter how sleazy-who they thing is pro-union ; business groups will support someone who supports "right to work" laws.

Some womens' groups will support anyone who is " pro-choice";others will support anyone they feel is anti-abortion.

The point I'm trying to make is this: you probably should NOT support a candidate on the basis of a "single issue" - no matter how strongly you feel about that issue.That particular issue may never even come up during the candidate's term of office; or it may turn out relatively unimportant.

If there is a single issue we should ALL support, it is INTEGRITY : something "The Torch" is distinctly lacking in.
